Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Farm Manager to oversee the daily operations and management of a newly established layers poultry farm. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring optimal production, health, and welfare of the birds, managing farm resources efficiently, and achieving production targets.
Key Responsibilities
Farm Operations Management:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the layers farm.
- Implement and manage schedules for feeding, vaccination, and egg collection.
- Ensure adherence to best practices in poultry farming to maximize egg production.
Health and Welfare Management:
- Monitor bird health regularly and promptly address any diseases or issues.
- Collaborate with veterinarians to ensure effective vaccination programs and biosecurity measures.
Resource and Staff Management:
- Recruit, train, and supervise farmworkers, ensuring all duties are performed efficiently.
- Allocate resources effectively, including feed, medication, and farm supplies.
- Maintain proper records of stock levels, purchases, and usage.
Production Monitoring and Reporting:
- Track egg production and ensure it meets set targets.
- Prepare regular reports on farm performance, including productivity, expenses, and bird health status.
- Implement strategies to improve production efficiency.
Maintenance of Farm Equipment and Facilities:
- Ensure all equipment (feeders, water systems, generators, etc.) is in good working condition.
- Oversee farm cleanliness, including proper waste management and hygiene practices.
Compliance:
- Adhere to local and international poultry farming regulations and safety standards.
- Implement biosecurity measures to prevent disease outbreaks.
Job Requirements
Educational Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Agriculture, Animal Science, Poultry Science, Veterinary Science, or a related field.
Work Experience:
- Minimum of 2–5 years of experience managing a poultry farm, particularly layers for egg production.
- Experience in setting up or managing newly established farms is an added advantage.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of poultry health management, feeding programs, and biosecurity measures.
- Ability to monitor and analyze farm performance and implement improvement strategies.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in farm record-keeping and reporting.
- Knowledge of farm equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet production targets.
