Job Summary:
The Senior Specialist, Women and Youth will promote gender equality and social inclusion in the fisheries trade sector. They will conduct analysis, develop strategies, and provide training for project beneficiaries and stakeholders.
Program/Practice/Department Overview:
The AquaTrade project is designed to create jobs within Nigeria's fisheries value chain for women and youths by providing capacity building training and facilitating access to market and finance with the aim of boosting trade in fish and value-added fish products.
Primary Functions & Responsibilities:
- Conduct gender-sensitive trade analysis to identify barriers faced by women and youth.
- Assess the social and economic impacts of trade policies on marginalized groups.
- Develop and implement gender-transformative approaches in trade policy recommendations and project activities.
- Design interventions to promote the participation of women and youth in the fisheries value chain.
- Conduct gender and social inclusion training sessions for project staff, government counterparts, and stakeholders to build capacity and awareness.
- Track progress on gender and social inclusion indicators and develop communication materials and case studies to showcase gender and social inclusion achievements and lessons learned.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's in Gender Studies, Sociology, Development Studies, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in gender and social inclusion analysis. Alternatively a Master’s degree + 3 years of experience
- Strong understanding of gender mainstreaming principles and practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in the fisheries or agricultural sector is desirable, but not mandatory.
- Familiarity with gender mainstreaming tools and methodologies.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong analytical and advocacy skills.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
- Ability to work with various stakeholders.
