Background
- The International Society of Media in Public Health (ISMPH) leverages the power of media to advocate for effective health policies, inform the public, and support evidence-based health reforms. To strengthen this mission, ISMPH is organizing a targeted training for selected media professionals. The training focuses on enhancing their understanding and capacity to report on key public health policies and agendas such as RMNCAH, PHC Agenda, Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp), health insurance schemes, and the small and sick newborn agenda.
Objective of the Consultancy
- To design and deliver an intensive media capacity-building workshop that empowers media personnel to effectively communicate, analyze, and advocate through reporting on Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) policies, Primary Health Care (PHC) reforms, the Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp), health insurance initiatives, and the small and sick newborn agenda.
Key Responsibilities
The Consultant will be responsible for:
- Reviewing background materials on RMNCAH, PHC, SWAp, health insurance, and newborn care in Nigeria.
- Designing a tailored training curriculum and agenda.
- Facilitating interactive sessions during the 3-day per state workshop, including:
- Explaining technical concepts in journalist-friendly language.
- Case-based group discussions and breakout sessions.
- Guiding participants to develop story pitches on the above policy areas.
- Developing media-friendly pitch templates and communication guidelines.
- Submitting a comprehensive report including pre/post-test results and key recommendations.
Expected Deliverables
- Detailed training curriculum and agenda aligned with ISMPH’s thematic focus.
- Slide decks and case studies on each theme (RMNCAH, PHC, SWAp, etc.).
- Delivery of the 3-day per state in-person training.
- Media pitch template and communication guideline document.
- Final report covering methodology, participant engagement, evaluations, and recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Public Health, Journalism, Development Communication, or related fields.
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in media engagement and public health communication.
- Prior experience designing or facilitating media trainings on health sector reforms.
- Strong knowledge of Nigeria’s health policy landscape and the media ecosystem.
- Exceptional public speaking, moderation, and instructional design skills.
