Job Summary
- The Project Manager will serve as the overall lead for the nutrition programme, providing technical, operational, and administrative oversight for all project activities.
- S/He will be responsible for the implementation of emergency nutrition programming, including Community-Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM), with a strong focus on Outpatient Therapeutic Programme (OTP) services for children with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM).
- The role will ensure effective screening, admission, treatment, follow-up, and discharge of OTP beneficiaries, as well as timely referral of complicated SAM cases to Stabilization Centres (SC).
- The Project Manager will also oversee MAM treatment using the Tom Brown approach, MIYCF programming, nutrition surveillance, and integration of protection principles, including GBV awareness and safe referrals.
- S/He will ensure that OTP sites are properly established, functional, and compliant with hygiene, safety, and service delivery standards in line with national and donor guidelines.
- He/She will Supervise and mentor project staff, while organizing trainings on IYCF, micronutrient supplementation, and protection principles to build team and community capacity.
- He/She will Oversee data collection, field monitoring, and reporting; ensure compliance with donor and organizational standards; and maintain strong collaboration with local authorities, health facilities, and partners.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversee the establishment and functionality of OTP sites, ensuring availability of required materials, proper layout, hygiene, and safe service delivery environment.
- Participate with M&E team in supervision of data collection for nutrition and health assessments.
- Liaise with nutrition and health assistants for accessing community support group database, health facility database on a regular basis and updating overall health facility-based activities.
- Conduct ongoing capacity assessment of health workers on CMAM services delivery, reproductive health service delivery, vaccination etc. and review the training needs and/or coaching needs.
- Ensure quality implementation of OTP services, including screening, admission, treatment, follow-up, and discharge of SAM cases without complications.
- Supervise the proper use and management of OTP medical supplies and routine medications in line with national CMAM protocols.
- Ensure accurate anthropometric measurements (MUAC, weight, height) and proper documentation of all OTP beneficiaries.
- Establish and monitor a functional referral system for children with medical complications to Stabilization Centres (SC), including follow-up of referred cases.
- Ensure appropriate caregiver support and counselling for OTP beneficiaries, including treatment adherence and follow-up visits.
- Coordinate with health facilities and authorities to ensure integration of OTP services within existing health systems.
- Ensure data quality, reporting, and compliance with NHF and national CMAM guidelines.
- Conduct/update situation analysis of the nutrition situation for the development, design, and management of nutrition related programs/projects.
- Update tracking tool to monitor programme screening-based data on acute malnutrition, collect health facility-based disease surveillance reports and update morbidity reporting tool for assigned health facilities/LGAs.
- Facilitate quarterly review meetings/workshops with respective government health managers at State/LGA level.
- Regularly report and coordinate with line supervisor regarding challenges, issues faced in the field for timely and appropriate decision-making.
- Ensure regular contact with SMoH service providers and LGA health authorities to receive service delivery report in a timely manner.
Experience and technical competencies
- Demonstrated success in community resilience programs and technically sound in cash transfers, capacity building, and other cash transfer components;
- Excellent communication skills, calm, with a good sense of working in an intercultural environment;
- Excellent Microsoft Office applications skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Emails, Skype, Web researchers).
- Self-motivated and results orientated.
- Highly diplomatic and emotionally intelligent with strong oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrates a strong commitment and passion for the realization of women’s and girls’ rights and gender equality;
- Knowledge of women’s rights and gender equality and willingness to strengthen her/his capacity in this area; and
- Able to effectively advocate for change and influence others.
- Knowledge of and adherence to the ECM Code of Conduct understands other international development guidelines.
Position Requirements
- The Nutrition Project Manager WILL be based in Maiduguri.
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Public Health, community health or other relevant field.
- Minimum of 5 years’ work experience in implementing CMAM, IYCF, and other community-based nutrition activities. Experience in MAM treatment using Tom Brown approach is desirable.
- Master’s degree in relevant fields; Nutrition, Public Health, Community Health will be an added advantage
- Be proficient in the use of computer applications (Microsoft Office - Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Have excellent leadership, coordination, team, budget, project management and representation competencies.
- Fluent in English and Hausa languages.
- Have previous NGO experience managing mobilization in different interventions (i.e. CBT, WASH, Nutrition) preferably.
