Job Summary
- Under the supervision of the GBV Officer, and in close coordination with GBV team members, the GBV Assistant will be fully field-based and responsible for providing SGBV case management, counseling services, and facilitating emotional support group sessions for women, girls, and survivors of gender-based violence.
- The GBV Assistant will support the effective implementation and coordination of LABDI’s protection objectives and GBV-related activities.
LOCATION: Dikwa and Jere LGA Of Borno State Gujba LGA of Yobe State
Key Responsibilities
- Provide counseling services to GBV survivors and refer them to appropriate case management services when necessary.
- Accurately document and store GBV data using the GBV Information Management Systems (GBVIMS/GBVIMS+), in line with inter-agency information-sharing protocols.
- Facilitate emotional support group sessions for women and girls at risk of or affected by GBV, in compliance with best practices and LABDI’s
- Conduct awareness-raising activities to promote safe and timely help-seeking behaviors among survivors.
- Disseminate clear, inclusive, and actionable information on available GBV services.
- Refer survivors to appropriate healthcare and other multidisciplinary services.
- Assess and map available services for GBV survivors within the community.
- Provide targeted assistance to address urgent needs of survivors.
- Share relevant information with women and girls at risk of GBV.
- Support the GBV Officer and GBV Manager in implementing GBV program activities.
- Maintain an active field presence to ensure effective implementation, supervision, and monitoring of GBV interventions.
Requirements
- 2–3 years of experience in GBV prevention and response programming.
- Strong knowledge of GBV, child protection, and psychosocial support (PSS) principles.
- Demonstrated experience in women’s protection programs, including empowerment initiatives, reproductive health, and counseling.
- Experience working with communities, implementing GBV prevention programs, and providing services in shelters and rural settings.
- In-depth technical expertise in protection, women and girls’ safe spaces programming, and GBV-related issues.
- Strong understanding of gender inequality, discrimination, and violence against women and girls.
Desirable Skills
- Knowledge of the impact of early marriage on individuals, families, and communities.
- Understanding of the effects of child labor on child development.
- Basic knowledge of reproductive health.
- Commitment to promoting gender equality and preventing GBV.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other basic computer applications.
- Familiarity with the operational context in Monguno.
Core Competencies
- Strong communication and psychosocial first aid skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Fluency in English and at least one local language (Hausa, Kanuri, or Shuwa).
- Proven experience facilitating trainings and workshops on GBV, gender, and SRH topics.
- Strong analytical, report writing, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data to inform program decisions.
- Capacity to produce high-quality reports within deadlines.
