Job Description

The Orgnanization

  • The Foundation is a child-focused non-governmental organization committed to ending child sexual abuse in Nigeria.

  • We work to create safe spaces for children through advocacy, survivor support, public awareness, and capacity building for frontline professionals.

  • Our communications function plays a vital role in amplifying our mission and mobilizing communities to take action.

Role Overview

  • The Communications Associate will provide on-ground, day-to-day execution support to the Head of Communications & Impact, ensuring consistent, high-quality, and trauma-informed communication across all platforms.

  • The role is critical to maintaining visibility, credibility, and impact storytelling — particularly during a transition phase — while ensuring full alignment with the organization’s child protection mandate.

  • The ideal candidate is a creative and disciplined communicator who understands how to translate complex, sensitive issues into compelling, accessible narratives across multiple platforms.

Responsibilities

Social Media & Content Creation:

  • Develop and manage monthly content calendars for social media platforms (Instagram, X, Facebook, LinkedIn), ensuring consistent messaging and brand voice.

  • Create engaging written, visual, and multimedia content that raises awareness of child sexual abuse and promotes programmes and initiatives.

  • Manage the production and distribution of external newsletter, including content curation, copywriting, scheduling, and performance tracking.

  • Translate complex casework and programme outcomes into ethical, trauma-informed narratives, ensuring all content aligns with safeguarding and confidentiality standards.

  • Monitor social media channels, respond to engagement, and track performance metrics, providing monthly analytics reports and recommendations.

  • Collaborate with the programmes team to document stories, impact data, and field activities for digital storytelling.

Media Relations & PR:

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, and media partners to secure coverage of work and advocacy campaigns.

  • Draft press releases, media advisories, media statements, briefing notes, and opinion pieces, and coordinate media requests and interviews.

  • Monitor media coverage and prepare regular press clipping reports for leadership.

  • Support the planning and execution of press events, campaign launches, and public awareness activities.

  • Assist in managing reputational and crisis communications with sensitivity, accuracy, and appropriate escalation protocols.

Internal Communications & Documentation:

  • Support the development and distribution of internal newsletters, staff updates, and organizational announcements.

  • Document organizational activities, programmes, and events, and provide communications support for trainings, workshops, stakeholder engagements, and field visits.

  • Work with department heads to ensure accurate and timely communication of organizational priorities to staff.

  • Assist in organizing all-staff meetings, town halls, and other internal engagement activities.

Design & Visual Content:

  • Develop graphic designs using tools such as Canva or Adobe Suite, including infographics, campaign visuals, and presentation decks for the Founder, CEO, and Board.

  • Ensure brand consistency across all materials and platforms.

Website & Content Management:

  • Update and maintain website content regularly, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with organizational messaging.

  • Upload reports, publications, and media features as required.

Stakeholder & Partnership Communications:

  • Support communication with donors and partners (e.g. Freedom Fund, FCDO) and government stakeholders (e.g. Ministry of Justice, TRCN).

  • Assist in drafting formal letters, partnership briefs, donor updates, grant communications, and event invitations and follow-ups.

  • Support the development of impact reports, including the 10-Year Impact Report.

Safeguarding & Ethical Communications:

  • Ensure all communications are trauma-informed, survivor-centred, and confidentiality-compliant.

  • Apply strict protocols when handling case-related content or images in line with safeguarding standards.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Mass Communication, or a related field.

  • 2–4 years of professional experience in communications, preferably within an NGO, public sector, or social impact organization.

  • Demonstrated experience managing social media accounts and producing content for professional or organizational platforms.

  • Experience in development sector or social impact storytelling.

  • Experience with basic graphic design tools (e.g. Canva) and familiarity with video content creation.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, emotionally sensitive environment and meet tight deadlines.

Key Competencies:

  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to adapt tone and style for different audiences and channels.

  • High emotional intelligence and trauma-sensitive communication ability

  • Digital marketing and social media management skills

  • Basic graphic design capability (Canva, Adobe Suite)

  • Familiarity with analytics tools (e.g. Meta Business Suite, Google Analytics)

  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently while coordinating with a remote supervisor.

  • Discretion and professionalism in handling sensitive information.
