Job Summary
- A Laboratory Technician supports scientific, medical, or industrial research and testing by collecting, processing, and analyzing samples.
- Key duties include operating complex equipment, maintaining strict quality control and safety protocols, documenting data in LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems), and maintaining a sterile, organized work environment.
Core Responsibilities & Duties
- Sample Management: Receiving, labeling, preparing, and storing specimens, samples, or products for testing.
- Testing & Analysis: Performing, analyzing, and documenting tests using techniques like wet chemistry or microscopic examination.
- Equipment Maintenance: Cleaning, sterilizing, calibrating, and performing routine maintenance on laboratory instruments, such as pH meters, balances, and centrifuges.
- Data Recording: Meticulously recording and analyzing results to ensure accuracy, often using computer software to generate reports.
- Safety Compliance: Adhering to strict safety guidelines (OSHA, FDA, GMP) and using personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Inventory Control: Monitoring and ordering lab supplies, reagents, and materials.
Key Qualifications & SkillsEducation
- A Degree or Certificate in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology, or a related field (often a Bachelor’s or Associate degree).
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with laboratory equipment and data management software.
- Analytical Skills: Strong mathematical skills for calculations and data analysis.Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to recording data and maintaining safety standards.
