Job Description
We are seeking a qualified, passionate, and student-focused Basic Science Teacher to join our secondary school team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality science education, supporting students’ academic and personal development, and contributing to a collaborative learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct class and subject teaching activities in line with approved teaching schemes, lesson plans, and school policies.
- Prepare and deliver engaging Basic Science lessons that promote student understanding and participation.
- Monitor students’ learning progress and provide feedback on the appropriateness and effectiveness of teaching plans and methods.
- Identify students with special learning needs and liaise with the Remedial Teacher to develop appropriate support strategies.
- Maintain discipline in the classroom, apply approved sanctions where necessary, and promptly escalate major disciplinary matters to the Sectional Head.
- Provide pastoral care and support the overall academic, emotional, and social development of students.
- Prepare, administer, and grade class tests, assignments, practicals, and examinations.
- Monitor and report continuously on individual student performance, progress, and achievements.
- Establish and maintain effective communication with parents/guardians to provide feedback on students’ performance and address individual learning needs.
- Contribute positively to teamwork, collaboration, and a supportive professional culture within the school community.
- Participate actively in staff meetings, school events, training sessions, and extracurricular activities.
Requirements
- Minimum of B.Ed./B.Sc. (Ed.) in Integrated Science, Basic Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or related discipline.
- TRCN certification.
- Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in a secondary school environment.
- Good classroom management and student engagement skills.
- Strong understanding of modern teaching methodologies and continuous assessment practices.
- Ability to teach practical and activity-based science lessons effectively.
