Position Summary



Under the supervision of the Deputy Country Director – Programmes and with the Regional Technical Protection Coordinator (functional link), he/she ensures the development of thematic approaches and methodologies adopted in the Protection strategy as well as their adaptation and roll-out at the national level:




  • He/She contributes to programmatic steering by ensuring the implementation and follow-up of the Protection indicators in Nigeria Delegation and by endorsing the indicators and their analysis. 

  • He/She technically supports and accompanies the Protection operations/projects/approaches or dimensions at the delegation level.

  • He/She manages and shares Protection knowledge and good practices with the Tdh Nigeria Delegation teams (training, coaching).

  • He/She ensures knowledge management in link with Protection in the delegation. 

  • He/She ensures the quality and alignment of projects / interventions and approaches in Protection with international and Tdh’s standards.

  • He/She ensures technical support and the quality control of programs in link with Protection in the delegation. 

  • He/She develops strategic partnerships in the fields of Protection and complementary field expertise at the national level. 

  • He/She is in charge of structuring Protection professional channels at the delegation level.

  • He/She is responsible for and accountable to beneficiaries, collaborators and donors

  • He/She represents Tdh’s Protection expertise by participating in national or regional coordination mechanisms (including humanitarian coordination mechanisms), working groups, conferences, forums, etc. and actively contributes to thematic advocacy related to Protection.

  • He/She actively participates in and contributes to the overall development of Protection expertise through contributions to internal organizational working groups and/or by contributing to technical documents and guidance.

  • He/she contributes to fund-raising and may also engage with donors in link with the Protection expertise.



Key Responsibilities



More specifically he/she has the following responsibilities:



Strategy and steering




  • He/She contributes to thematically analyzing the Protection related issues and major trends at the national level.

  • He/She participates in defining the country strategy in Protection across all Programmes / Sectors at the national level 

  • He/She technically supports project teams in the implementation of Protection activities and approaches.

  • He/She ensures analysis of Protection programmatic indicators for the Delegation’s programs 



Principles, standards, methodologies 




  • Acts as the Protection thematic reference at the national level 

  • Is responsible for the dissemination and roll-out of Protection principles, approaches, methodologies and standards across the diverse Tdh Protection expertise and across programmes/sectors at the national level.

  • Ensures their implementation at field level. 



Innovation




  • Contributes to the development and the implementation of innovations in the fields of Protection for the Delegation’s programs 

  • Uses the ecosystem created by the disruptive innovation unit to generate innovations and incubates and accelerates them; Incorporates this dimension into the training of teams



Funding / Resources mobilization 




  • Identifies donors and favourable financial opportunities for Protection interventions / programming in the Delegation.

  • Contributes to resources mobilization, with strong expectations regarding needs and resource analysis, strategic thinking for project design, as well as drafting project documents/proposals, contributing to the development of monitoring plans and budgets, and preparing communication materials, including inputs to proposal writing.



Insurance and quality control




  • Ensures Protection technical support for programs in the Delegation (across all Tdh Protection expertise and embedded into all sectors / programmes).

  • Contributes to developing and disseminating manuals, procedures and tools as part of his/her role in ensuring quality across the different Tdh Protection expertise. 

  • Contributes to and coordinates the operations’ quality-control in terms of Protection. 



Management and knowledge sharing




  • Identifies Protection interventions / approaches good practices, documents them, models them and updates them when necessary (manuals, procedures, tools).

  • Ensures their dissemination and proper understanding with the teams involved in Protection interventions / practices.

  • Participates in research and development activities in link with Protection interventions and approaches and may be led to contribute to the drafting of strategic, academic, etc. documents

  • Ensures the strengthening of Protection technical skills and capacities (as part of learning and development for collaborators), good working practices and methods at the national level; this is also applicable with partners and other stakeholders involved (network, etc.).

  • Drives the exchange of practices in the different areas of work in Protection for the Delegation. 



Advocacy




  • Contributes to campaigns and advocacy connected to the Protection expertise at the national level

  • Ensures Tdh Protection representation in the various forums.

  • May be led to act as spokesperson for Tdh with the media upon a request from the Head of Delegation and/or his/her Deputy.



Practices and networks




  • Develops, maintains and consolidates the network of stakeholders involved in Protection and engages in the important subjects 

  • Drives and consolidates strategic partnerships in in link with Protection at the national level; ensures proper compliance with the code of conduct at all times (on behalf of Tdh and partners if needed) 

  • Shares Tdh’s knowledge, outcomes and experiences within the professional networks and is able to represent Tdh at all times

  • Participates in coordination meetings, and as such, locally represents Tdh with donors, authorities, partners, when linked with Tdh’s mandate in Protection.



Organizational structures




  • Actively contributes to identifying human resources and financial needs for Protection interventions and influences the definition, from Tdh’s required Protection skills. 

  • Works in a matrix with the Delegation’s entire program team 

  • Ensures proper consistency and coordination in allotted time with olleagues (Operations and other department) as well as with their partners and stakeholders engaged in Protection activities / interventions / approaches.

  • Confirmed experience in technical-adviser or coordinator positions in Protection expertise 

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and a lot of emotional intelligence (a sense of active listening and diplomacy)

  • Excellent drafting capacities and representation in English

Education / Qualifications     




  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Child Protection, Social Work, Child Psychology / Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), or another relevant social science field; or an equivalent combination of education and significant professional experience in child protection.



Experience     




  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in child protection, including at least 3 years in technical advisory roles, capacity strengthening, and team supervision.

  • Proven experience in the design, implementation, and monitoring of child protection programmes, including needs and resource analysis, and the mainstreaming of protection across sectors and programmes, combined with strong strategic and cross-cutting analytical skills.

  • Sound knowledge of international and national child protection frameworks and standards.

  • Demonstrated experience within an NGO, including coordination with institutional partners, international and local NGOs, and participation in working groups and/or clusters.

  • Comprehensive understanding of Tdh’s child protection areas of intervention / expertise (case management, child protection systems strengthening, community-based protection, child protection in emergencies, MHPSS, safeguarding, child participation and empowerment), with advanced /senior expertise in at least one of these domains.

  • Additional specialized training is an asset (e.g. Child Protection in Emergencies – CPiE, evidence-based MHPSS interventions, safeguarding/PSEA, child participation and empowerment, GBV, humanitarian project management).

  • Good understanding of localization approaches and partnership-based programming.



Languages  




  • English. Hausa, Kanuri, Shuwa Arabic and/or French are considered assets 



IT Knowledges




  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) 

  • Comfortable using online collaboration tools (Teams, SharePoint) 

  • Experience with data collection and monitoring tools (Kobo or equivalent) and data analysis, or strong willingness and ability to learn quickly 

  • Experience with the use and rollout of CPIMS+ is a strong asset



Additional Requirements

  • Compliance with Tdh administrative and security procedures.

  • Previous experience in Northeast Nigeria is an advantage.
