Job Summary:  



The Legal Officer will support the Legal Services Department in providing professional services such as ensuring regulatory compliance, managing legal risks and supporting mortgage and loan-related transactions. The role includes preparation and review of legal and contract documentation, dispute resolution, and liaison with external legal counsel on due diligence, title perfection, mortgage registration and litigation matters. 



Key Responsibilities 



Legal Advisory & Compliance 




  • Provide legal opinions and guidance on mortgage banking operations and financial services. 

  • Ensure compliance with banking regulations, mortgage laws, and corporate governance requirements. 

  • Keep abreast of changes in financial and banking laws and advise management accordingly. 



Mortgage & Loan Transactions 




  • Review security documentation to ensure validity and enforceability. 

  • Maintain custody of original legal documents related to mortgages and other credit facilities. 



Contract Management 




  • Draft and review legal agreements including mortgage, loan, and service contracts. 

  • Ensure legal documents are in line with the Bank’s corporate policies and regulatory framework. 



Dispute Resolution 




  • Liaise with external solicitors on ongoing court matters, providing necessary documentation and support. 

  • Prepare report and advise on dispute resolution strategies to mitigate legal risks. 



Regulatory & Corporate Governance 




  • Support compliance with regulatory reporting requirements and liaise with regulatory authorities.. 

  • Assist with corporate secretarial duties 



Key Requirements 



Education & Qualification 




  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) 

  • Nigerian Law School (BL) 



Experience 




  • Minimum of 6 years of post-call legal experience 

  • At least 4 years in a financial institution, mortgage bank, or related sector
