Responsibilities




  • The project involves large-scale marine works, heavy civil construction activities, concrete production, precast operations, heavy lifting equipment, and fleet management within one of West Africa's most strategic infrastructure developments.

  • The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all yard operations and ensuring the efficient management of resources, equipment, materials and personnel to support project execution.



Yard Operations Management:




  • Lead and manage all activities within the project yard, ensuring safe, efficient and cost-effective operations.

  • Establish and enforce operational procedures, workflows and performance standards across all yard activities.

  • Coordinate the movement, storage and allocation of materials, equipment and construction assets.

  • Ensure optimal utilization of yard facilities to support project requirements and deadlines.

  • Maintain strict discipline and operational control across a large multicultural workforce.



Concrete & Precast Production:




  • Oversee the operations of multiple concrete batching plants serving the project.

  • Ensure production targets, quality standards and delivery schedules are consistently achieved.

  • Supervise precast concrete production activities and ensure compliance with technical specifications.

  • Coordinate production planning with construction and marine operations teams.



Equipment & Fleet Management:




  • Manage a large fleet of construction equipment, lifting machinery, trucks and operational vehicles.

  • Ensure equipment availability, utilization and maintenance performance meet project requirements.

  • Coordinate preventive maintenance programs with technical and mechanical teams.

  • Monitor equipment productivity and implement corrective actions where necessary.

  • Ensure effective management of spare parts, consumables and workshop operations.



Logistics & Resource Planning:




  • Coordinate inbound and outbound logistics activities related to project operations.

  • Monitor inventory levels and ensure availability of critical materials and equipment.

  • Develop efficient yard layouts and storage systems to optimize productivity and safety.

  • Support procurement and project teams in forecasting equipment and material requirements.



Health, Safety & Compliance:




  • Promote a strong safety culture throughout all yard operations.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, HSE standards and local regulations.

  • Lead incident investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions.

  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping, security and operational discipline.



Leadership & Team Management:




  • Lead, mentor and develop supervisors, operators, mechanics and support personnel.

  • Build a high-performance culture focused on accountability, productivity and operational excellence.

  • Manage workforce planning, performance evaluations and training initiatives.

  • Maintain strong discipline and clear reporting structures across the organisation.



Desired Skills and Experience




  • Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in heavy construction, marine works, infrastructure, mining, military engineering or large industrial operations.

  • Proven experience managing large construction yards, equipment fleets and operational bases.

  • Strong knowledge of concrete batching plants, precast production and heavy lifting operations.

  • Extensive experience managing heavy equipment including cranes, excavators, loaders, trucks and specialized construction machinery.

  • Demonstrated experience working in Africa within complex operational environments.

  • Strong understanding of logistics, maintenance planning and resource allocation.

  • Proven ability to manage large multicultural workforces under demanding project conditions.

  • Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.

  • Strong character, resilience and ability to enforce discipline and operational standards.

  • Former military engineering corps, military logistics, naval engineering or comparable highly structured operational environments.

  • Experience on major port, marine, mining, oil & gas, EPC or large infrastructure projects.

  • Previous experience managing workforces exceeding 300 personnel.

  • Experience in remote or challenging operational environments across Africa.
