Position Summary
The Farm Pen Worker is responsible for the daily care, maintenance, and monitoring of livestock pens. This role ensures that birds/animals have a clean, safe, and healthy environment, supporting overall farm productivity, animal welfare, and biosecurity standards.
Key Responsibilities
Animal Care
- Monitor birds/animals daily for health, behavior, and activity level.
- Identify sick or injured animals and report issues immediately.
- Assist with administering feed, water, and supplements as instructed.
Pen Maintenance
- Clean pens, remove waste, and ensure bedding is properly managed.
- Maintain feeding and watering equipment.
- Ensure pens are dry, well-ventilated, and secure.
Biosecurity & Safety
- Follow all farm biosecurity protocols (footbath, clothing, PPE).
- Control entry into pens to prevent contamination.
- Follow safety practices when handling animals or equipment.
Record Keeping
- Document daily mortality, feed consumption, and unusual observations.
- Report inventory changes (feed, bedding, medications).
General Support
- Assist with vaccination, sorting, loading, or treatment processes.
- Help maintain farm cleanliness and sanitation overall.
- Support other farm workers when needed.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working with animals (preferred but not required).
- Ability to follow directions and adhere to strict hygiene protocols.
- Physically able to lift 30–50 lbs and stand for long periods.
- Comfortable working in warm or humid environments.
- Reliable, punctual, and attentive to detail.
