Job Description






An HSE Officer is responsible for ensuring that all architectural projects, office operations, and construction-related activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations. The officer develops and implements safety policies, conducts risk assessments, promotes a safe working environment, and ensures compliance with relevant laws and industry standards.



Key Responsibilities




  • Develop, implement, and monitor health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.

  • Conduct regular site inspections and safety audits.

  • Identify workplace hazards and recommend corrective actions.

  • Carry out risk assessments for architectural and construction projects.

  • Ensure compliance with local and company HSE regulations.

  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses and prepare reports.

  • Organize safety training, inductions, and awareness programs for employees and contractors.

  • Monitor the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Maintain HSE records, documentation, and reports.

  • Coordinate emergency preparedness and response activities.

  • Advise management on safety improvements and regulatory requirements.

  • Monitor environmental impacts and ensure proper waste management practices.



Requirements



Educational Qualifications




  • Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.



Professional Certifications




  • Preferred certifications may include:

  • Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria certification.

  • National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health Certificate or Diploma.

  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration certification.

  • First Aid and CPR certification.



Experience




  • 1–3 years of HSE experience, preferably in architecture, construction, engineering, or related industries.

  • Experience conducting safety inspections and risk assessments.
