Job Summary
- The successful candidates will work closely with fertility specialists, embryologists, theatre / procedure teams, and other clinical staff to provide safe, professional, and patient-centred care to patients undergoing fertility investigations and treatment.
- This position is specifically for experienced fertility nurses. Candidates must have practical knowledge of fertility treatments and assisted reproductive procedures and should be able to work confidently within a busy fertility/IVF setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients undergoing fertility investigations and treatment.
- Support patients throughout the various stages of IVF, ICSI, IUI, ovulation induction, embryo transfer, fertility preservation, and related fertility procedures.
- Prepare patients for fertility procedures and ensure they understand relevant instructions and treatment protocols.
- Monitor patients during treatment cycles and promptly escalate abnormal findings or concerns to the fertility physician.
- Administer prescribed fertility medications and injections accurately and safely, including appropriate patient education on medication administration where required.
- Assist with monitoring patients undergoing ovarian stimulation and coordinate investigations such as blood tests and ultrasound scans as directed by the fertility team.
- Support egg retrieval/follicular aspiration procedures and provide appropriate pre- and post-procedure nursing care.
- Assist with embryo transfer procedures and provide patients with relevant post-procedure instructions.
- Support patients undergoing IUI and other fertility-related procedures.
- Prepare treatment rooms, equipment, medications, consumables, and documentation required for fertility procedures.
- Maintain strict adherence to infection prevention and control protocols.
- Monitor patients following sedation or procedures and promptly report complications or adverse reactions.
- Provide emotional support and compassionate communication to patients and couples throughout what can be a physically and emotionally demanding treatment process.
- Provide appropriate patient education regarding treatment protocols, medications, appointments, procedures, and follow-up care.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records, treatment documentation, medication records, observations, and procedure notes.
- Coordinate patient appointments, investigations, procedures, and treatment-cycle schedules with the relevant clinical teams.
- Liaise effectively with fertility consultants, embryologists, laboratory personnel, theatre staff, pharmacists, and administrative teams.
- Ensure patients receive clear instructions regarding preparation for procedures and post-procedure care.
- Assist in maintaining appropriate inventory of fertility medications, consumables, and clinical supplies.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and documentation of medications and clinical materials in accordance with hospital protocols.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with professional, ethical, and hospital standards.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, infection-control activities, and other departmental responsibilities.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and provide immediate nursing support within the scope of professional practice.
- Perform other relevant clinical duties assigned by the supervising physician or nursing management.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Registered Nurse (RN) qualification with a valid licence to practise in Nigeria.
- Valid registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
- B.NSc/B.Sc. Nursing or equivalent qualification is preferred.
- Substantial and demonstrable experience in fertility nursing, IVF, or an Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) centre is required.
- Candidates should have practical familiarity with IVF treatment cycles and various fertility treatments and procedures.
- Strong ability to communicate sensitively and professionally with patients experiencing fertility challenges.
- Ability to work effectively with fertility consultants, embryologists, laboratory scientists, theatre teams, and other healthcare professionals.
- Excellent attention to detail, particularly in treatment-cycle documentation, medication administration, patient identification, and procedure preparation.
- Ability to work under pressure in a busy fertility clinic while maintaining a high standard of patient care.
Experience Level:
- This is not an entry-level position.
- Candidates must have significant hands-on experience in fertility nursing and be familiar with the practical processes involved in IVF and other assisted reproductive technologies.
- Candidates with experience working in established IVF/fertility centres, reproductive medicine units, or fertility hospitals are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Candidates should be prepared to discuss their previous fertility/IVF experience, clinical competencies, familiarity with fertility treatment protocols, and experience managing patients undergoing assisted reproductive procedures.
