Job Summary
- Provides overall strategic, operational and commercial leadership of the bank.
- Accountable to the board for profitability, regulatory compliance, growth of the loan and deposit portfolio, and the safety of depositors' funds, while directly driving the sales agenda.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily leadership and direction to all heads of department; chair the morning huddle to review previous day's figures (deposits, disbursements, PAR, cash position).
- Drive deposit mobilisation and loan growth targets; personally manage key/high-value customer relationships and prospect for institutional deposits.
- Approve loans within delegated limit and chair the Management Credit Committee.
- Review daily financial position, liquidity ratio and portfolio-at-risk (PAR) reports.
- Ensure compliance with CBN / NDIC regulations and rendition of all statutory returns.
- Represent the bank before CBN, NDIC, tax authorities, trade associations and the Onitsha business community.
- Implement Board decisions and report monthly on performance vs. budget.
- Oversee staff performance management, discipline and a strong service/sales culture.
Educational Qualification
- Minimum of a MBA or MSC with Bachelor's Degree (B.Sc) in Banking & Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration or related field.
Professional Certification:
- Microfinance Certification Programme (MCP) of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) is mandatory for CBN approval as MD. ACIB, ICAN/ACCA or CIM an added advantage.
Experience Required:
- Minimum of 10 years in banking / financial services, with at least 5 years in microfinance or retail/commercial banking and 3+ years in a senior management role. Resumes as acting but must satisfy CBN 'fit and proper' criteria and be cleared by the CBN before full confirmation.
Technical / Job Skills:
- Strategic planning & budgeting; credit risk management; deposit mobilisation & sales strategy; knowledge of CBN Microfinance Policy, Prudential Guidelines & NDIC requirements; financial analysis & P&L management; proficiency in core banking applications and MS Excel / PowerPoint.
Soft Skills & Attributes:
- Visionary leadership; strong negotiation and relationship management; integrity and sound judgement; excellent communication and public speaking; ability to build and motivate high-performing teams; Transparency, and commitment to corporate governance.
- Deep understanding of the Onitsha / South-East MSME market structure.
