Job Functions
- The Account Officer is responsible for overseeing financial operations, reporting, controls, and compliance across multiple business lines — 365 (Oil & Gas) and Apex (Hospitality).
- This role will have strong financial oversight capabilities, multi-entity accounting experience, and the ability to implement internal controls across diverse industries.
- The Account Officer will ensure accurate financial reporting, effective cash flow management, regulatory compliance, and sound financial governance for both businesses.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Operations Oversight (Multi-Business Management):
- Oversee daily financial transactions for both 365 and Apex.
- Supervise cashiers and finance support staff to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Review and approve daily sales reports, expense postings, and reconciliations.
- Ensure proper revenue recognition across both businesses.
- Monitor cash flow and liquidity requirements for each business unit.
- Coordinate intercompany transactions where applicable.
Accounting & Financial Reporting:
- Maintain accurate general ledger records for both business lines.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Perform bank reconciliations and ensure timely resolution of discrepancies.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes.
- Prepare management reports highlighting revenue trends, cost drivers, and profitability.
- Support external audits and provide required documentation.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Planning:
- Assist in preparing annual budgets for 365 and Apex.
- Track actual performance against budget and provide variance analysis.
- Develop cash flow forecasts and financial projections.
- Support strategic decision-making with financial insights and scenario analysis.
- Monitor fuel inventory accounting (for 365) and food & beverage cost control (for Apex).
Internal Controls & Risk Management:
- Design and implement internal financial controls across both businesses.
- Ensure segregation of duties between cash handling, approvals, and reconciliations.
- Monitor for fraud risks, leakages, or financial irregularities.
- Conduct periodic internal audits of cash, inventory, and financial records.
- Strengthen compliance procedures in line with industry best practices.
Cash & Treasury Management:
- Oversee all cash handling processes and ensure timely bank deposits.
- Monitor POS transactions, transfers, and digital payment systems.
- Review daily cash reconciliation reports submitted by cashiers.
- Approve payment vouchers and authorize disbursements within delegated limits.
- Ensure proper safeguarding of financial assets and instruments.
Regulatory Compliance & Taxation:
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations, financial reporting standards, and statutory requirements.
- Prepare and file relevant tax returns (VAT, withholding tax, etc.).
- Liaise with regulatory bodies, auditors, and tax consultants when necessary.
- Ensure proper documentation and retention of financial records.
Leadership & Team Supervision:
- Supervise and mentor cashiers and junior finance staff.
- Set performance targets and ensure accountability within the finance function.
- Train operational teams on financial discipline and documentation standards.
- Collaborate with operations managers of both 365 and Apex to improve financial efficiency.
- Promote a culture of transparency, accountability, and financial integrity.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Accounting, or a related discipline.
- Professional accounting qualification such as ICAN, ACCA, or ACA is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ relevant experience in accounting or finance, preferably with experience managing finances across multiple business units or entities.
- Experience in multi-entity accounting, preferably across sectors such as Oil & Gas, Hospitality, Retail, or other high-volume transactional businesses.
- Demonstrable experience in financial reporting, budgeting, cash management, reconciliations, taxation, and internal controls.
- Working knowledge of Nigerian tax regulations, including VAT, Withholding Tax, PAYE, and other applicable statutory obligations.
- Experience with accounting software/ERP systems and strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
