Job Summary
- The Chief Security Officer (CSO) is responsible for the overall security, safety and protection of the Company’s personnel, guests, assets, facilities, information and operations.
- The role involves developing and implementing security procedures, supervising security personnel, monitoring access control, responding to security incidents and ensuring compliance with Company security policies.
- The CSO works closely with Management, Human Resources, Operations, Facility Management, law enforcement agencies and other relevant stakeholders to maintain a safe, secure and controlled environment.
Key Responsibilities
Security Management:
- Develop, implement and enforce effective security policies and procedures.
- Coordinate all security operations within the Company’s premises and assigned locations.
- Identify security risks and implement appropriate preventive measures.
- Ensure adequate security coverage across all areas of the facility.
Supervision of Security Personnel:
- Supervise Security Supervisors, Security Officers, CCTV Operators and other security staff.
- Prepare and monitor security duty rosters and deployment schedules.
- Assign duties and ensure proper coverage of all security posts.
- Monitor staff punctuality, discipline, appearance and performance.
- Conduct regular briefings and security meetings.
Access Control:
- Control and monitor entry and exit of employees, guests, contractors and visitors.
- Ensure proper verification and documentation of visitors.
- Monitor staff movement and access to restricted areas.
- Ensure that unauthorized persons do not gain access to controlled areas.
- Monitor the issuance and return of access cards, keys and other security credentials.
CCTV and Surveillance:
- Monitor CCTV operations and ensure cameras cover critical areas.
- Review CCTV footage when incidents occur.
- Ensure CCTV equipment is functional and properly maintained.
- Coordinate with CCTV Operators to identify suspicious activities.
- Maintain appropriate records of CCTV-related incidents.
Incident Management:
- Respond promptly to security incidents, emergencies and breaches.
- Investigate reported security incidents and prepare incident reports.
- Coordinate appropriate responses to theft, vandalism, unauthorized access, violence and other security threats.
- Preserve relevant evidence and information for investigations.
- Escalate serious incidents to Management and appropriate authorities.
Loss Prevention:
- Develop measures to prevent theft, fraud, vandalism and unauthorized removal of Company property.
- Monitor movement of Company assets, equipment and materials.
- Work with relevant departments to investigate suspected losses.
- Conduct security checks on vehicles, materials and goods where authorized.
Emergency and Crisis Management:
- Develop and implement emergency response procedures.
- Coordinate security response during fire, accidents, civil disturbances and other emergencies.
- Ensure security personnel understand emergency evacuation procedures.
- Participate in emergency drills and simulations.
- Liaise with emergency response agencies where necessary.
Security Risk Assessment:
- Conduct regular security risk assessments of the Company's premises.
- Identify vulnerable areas and recommend corrective measures.
- Assess risks associated with employees, visitors, contractors and external activities.
- Submit recommendations to Management on security improvements.
Patrol and Site Inspection:
- Conduct routine security inspections and patrols.
- Verify that security posts are properly manned.
- Inspect gates, fences, doors, restricted areas and other vulnerable locations.
- Identify and report security weaknesses promptly.
Vehicle and Parking Security:
- Monitor vehicle entry and exit.
- Ensure proper authorization for Company and visitor vehicles.
- Monitor parking areas and report suspicious activities.
- Maintain appropriate vehicle movement records where required.
Key and Asset Control:
- Maintain proper control of master keys, access cards and security-related equipment.
- Ensure restricted keys and access devices are issued only to authorized personnel.
- Maintain accurate records of issued and returned security items.
Contractor and Visitor Security:
- Coordinate security arrangements for contractors, vendors and visitors.
- Ensure contractors comply with Company security requirements.
- Monitor movement of external personnel within Company premises.
- Report unauthorized activities or violations.
Investigation and Reporting:
- Investigate security breaches, thefts, complaints and other incidents.
- Interview relevant personnel and gather available evidence.
- Prepare detailed security investigation reports.
- Maintain confidential security records.
Coordination with Law Enforcement:
- Liaise with Police, Civil Defence, Fire Service and other relevant security agencies when required.
- Provide appropriate information and support during official investigations.
- Maintain professional relationships with relevant external security stakeholders.
Security Equipment Management:
- Ensure security equipment is available and functional.
- Monitor the condition of radios, CCTV systems, torches, access-control devices and other security equipment.
- Report damaged or defective equipment for repair or replacement.
Security Documentation:
- Maintain security occurrence books, incident reports, visitor records and patrol records.
- Prepare daily, weekly and monthly security reports.
- Ensure proper documentation of security incidents and investigations.
Employee Security Awareness:
- Educate employees on basic security procedures and emergency protocols.
- Conduct security briefings where necessary.
- Promote awareness of theft prevention, access control and workplace safety.
Compliance and Confidentiality:
- Ensure compliance with Company security policies and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive security information.
- Prevent unauthorized disclosure of security arrangements and incidents.
Security Training:
- Train and mentor security personnel on security procedures and emergency response.
- Conduct regular drills and practical security exercises.
- Evaluate the performance and competence of security personnel.
General Operations Support:
- Participate in Management and operational meetings where security input is required.
- Provide professional security advice to Management.
- Support investigations and special assignments as directed.
- Perform other security-related duties assigned by Management.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education:
- B.Sc/HND in Security Management, Criminology, Sociology, Psychology, Public Administration, Law, Intelligence/Security Studies or a related discipline.
- Relevant professional security certifications will be an advantage.
- Previous experience in military, police, paramilitary, corporate security or hospitality security will be an advantage.
Experience:
- 5–8 years' relevant experience in security operations or security management.
- Proven experience supervising security personnel.
- Experience in access control, CCTV monitoring, incident investigation and risk assessment.
- Experience working in a corporate, hospitality, construction or large operational environment is an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of security procedures, emergency response and loss prevention.
- Good communication, leadership, observation and investigative skills.
