Job Description

Purpose of the Role

  • This role will lead and deliver impactful disinformation journalism that helps audiences understand, identify, and challenge false or misleading information.

  • Using data-driven research, OSINT, forensic techniques, and traditional reporting methods, the role investigates how and why disinformation spreads, who is behind it, and its real-world impact.

  • Working collaboratively across BBC teams and language services, the post-holder produces engaging, accessible, multi-platform content in English and local languages that informs audiences and strengthens media literacy.

Your Key Responsibilities and Impact

  • Lead the monitoring and analysis of disinformation trends across Africa using OSINT, analytics tools, and investigative journalism techniques.

  • Produce and commission impactful, audience-focused stories that demonstrate the real-world effects of disinformation and conspiracy theories.

  • Coordinate cross-BBC disinformation projects, fostering collaboration between language services, editorial teams, and specialist units.

  • Create engaging multi-platform content, including video, audio, text, graphics, and on-air reporting, that explains complex issues transparently and accessibly.

  • Plan and deliver coverage of major news events, supporting teams with resources, expertise, and accurate reporting to counter misinformation.

Your Skills and Experience

Essential Criteria:

  • Proven expertise in OSINT, forensic tools, and data-driven research, delivering high-impact, newsworthy investigations and disinformation reporting.

  • Strong digital journalism background, producing high-quality written, video, live, and pre-recorded content while translating complex, data-heavy stories into compelling multi-platform storytelling.

  • Experienced in managing sensitive editorial projects, collaborating with Legal, Editorial Policy, High Risk, and cross-functional teams to ensure accurate, responsible, and safe reporting.

  • Skilled at growing and engaging audiences through social media, understanding audience needs, and creating content that resonates across diverse BBC and World Service platforms.

  • Highly organised and self-motivated, with a proven ability to generate ideas, manage projects remotely, meet tight deadlines, and deliver accurate work under pressure.
