Job Details
- Monitoring: Reading gauges, meters, and charts to track boiler operations, and monitoring water, chemical, and fuel levels
- Adjusting: Activating valves to change the amount of water, air, and fuel in boilers
- Inspecting: Inspecting equipment to ensure it's operating efficiently, and checking safety devices routinely
- Maintaining: Maintaining elements like piping, valves, and gauges, and replacing worn parts
- Testing: Testing water quality for signs of corrosion, and testing water level, pressure, and chemical levels
- Repairing: Repairing boiler equipment and replacing damaged parts
- Recording: Recording data and keeping logs of operation, maintenance, and safety activity
Boiler operators may also perform other tasks, such as:
- Performing plumbing tasks, such as repairing, maintaining, and/or replacing toilet flush meters, faucets, and hot water tanks
- Performing custodial tasks, such as opening the building and disarming the security system
- Inspecting fire extinguishers, fire hoses, and eye wash stations on a monthly basis
- Greasing and oiling pumps
