Scope of the Role




  • Legal Officer will be responsible for providing legal support, ensuring regulatory compliance, drafting and reviewing contracts, and advising on corporate legal matters.

  • This role involves working closely with various departments to mitigate legal risks, ensure adherence to laws and regulations, and support the organization’s overall legal framework.

  • Candidate should reside in Abuja or be open to relocate to Abuja with little or no assistance.



Specific Responsibilities




  • Provide legal guidance on corporate matters, regulatory requirements, and risk management to ensure the company operates within legal frameworks.

  • Prepare, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and legal documents to safeguard the company’s interests.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, industry regulations, and corporate governance best practices.

  • Assist in handling legal disputes, liaising with external counsel, and representing the company in legal matters when required.

  • Identify potential legal risks and recommend strategies to mitigate them.

  • Conduct research on relevant laws, regulations, and case laws to support legal decision-making.

  • Liaise with government agencies, regulatory bodies, and external legal advisors as necessary.

  • Assist in developing and implementing company policies, procedures, and legal frameworks.

  • Support HR in handling employee-related legal matters, including contracts, disputes, and compliance with labor laws.

  • Ensure the protection of the company’s intellectual property rights, including trademarks and copyrights.

  • Perform any additional responsibilities as assigned by the CFO.



Technical Knowledge / Minimum Requirements




  • Minimum of 2-5 years experience in corporate law, legal advisory, or regulatory compliance.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B.) from a recognized institution.

  • Call to the Nigerian Bar (BL) and membership with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

  • Strong knowledge of corporate law, contract law, regulatory frameworks, and compliance best practices.

  • Familiarity with CBN regulations, data protection laws, AML/KYC policies, and other financial industry regulations.

  • Experience in legal research, contract drafting, and document review.

  • Excellent negotiation and dispute resolution skills.

  • Ability to analyze and mitigate legal risks.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for drafting legal documents and liaising with stakeholders.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams, regulatory bodies, and external legal counsel.

  • High level of accuracy in handling legal documentation and compliance matters.

  • Ability to proactively identify legal risks and provide practical solutions.

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation skills.

  • Must reside in Abuja
