Scope of the Role
- Legal Officer will be responsible for providing legal support, ensuring regulatory compliance, drafting and reviewing contracts, and advising on corporate legal matters.
- This role involves working closely with various departments to mitigate legal risks, ensure adherence to laws and regulations, and support the organization’s overall legal framework.
- Candidate should reside in Abuja or be open to relocate to Abuja with little or no assistance.
Specific Responsibilities
- Provide legal guidance on corporate matters, regulatory requirements, and risk management to ensure the company operates within legal frameworks.
- Prepare, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and legal documents to safeguard the company’s interests.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, industry regulations, and corporate governance best practices.
- Assist in handling legal disputes, liaising with external counsel, and representing the company in legal matters when required.
- Identify potential legal risks and recommend strategies to mitigate them.
- Conduct research on relevant laws, regulations, and case laws to support legal decision-making.
- Liaise with government agencies, regulatory bodies, and external legal advisors as necessary.
- Assist in developing and implementing company policies, procedures, and legal frameworks.
- Support HR in handling employee-related legal matters, including contracts, disputes, and compliance with labor laws.
- Ensure the protection of the company’s intellectual property rights, including trademarks and copyrights.
- Perform any additional responsibilities as assigned by the CFO.
Technical Knowledge / Minimum Requirements
- Minimum of 2-5 years experience in corporate law, legal advisory, or regulatory compliance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B.) from a recognized institution.
- Call to the Nigerian Bar (BL) and membership with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
- Strong knowledge of corporate law, contract law, regulatory frameworks, and compliance best practices.
- Familiarity with CBN regulations, data protection laws, AML/KYC policies, and other financial industry regulations.
- Experience in legal research, contract drafting, and document review.
- Excellent negotiation and dispute resolution skills.
- Ability to analyze and mitigate legal risks.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for drafting legal documents and liaising with stakeholders.
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams, regulatory bodies, and external legal counsel.
- High level of accuracy in handling legal documentation and compliance matters.
- Ability to proactively identify legal risks and provide practical solutions.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation skills.
