Job Summary




  • The Head of Design is responsible for leading and inspiring a multidisciplinary design team, ensuring that our products and brand deliver an exceptional, cohesive user experience. This role is pivotal in defining the design vision, scaling design systems, and integrating brand identity throughout our product portfolio. The Head of Design will collaborate closely with product, engineering, marketing, and executive teams to elevate our user experience and create impactful, user-centered solutions.

Design Vision and Leadership




  • Define and communicate a clear design vision that aligns with the company's mission and strategic goals.

  • Mentor and manage a team of designers, fostering an environment of creativity, growth, and collaboration.

Product Design and User Experience




  • Lead the design of intuitive, engaging, and delightful product experiences that address user needs and business goals.

  • Collaborate with product managers and engineers to ensure design feasibility and adherence to technical constraints.

  • Champion user-centered design principles, driving design research initiatives and translating insights into actionable design decisions.



Brand Integration and Design Consistency




  • Ensure that all product interfaces are consistent with the brand’s visual identity, tone, and values, creating a unified user experience.

  • Partner with the marketing and brand teams to align brand storytelling with product experiences.

  • Lead efforts to scale and maintain the design system, ensuring consistent usage of components and visual standards.



Cross-Functional Collaboration




  • Work closely with stakeholders across product, engineering, marketing, and customer success to align design initiatives with company objectives.

  • Advocate for the role of design in strategic discussions and demonstrate the impact of design on overall business outcomes.

  • Lead design workshops, critiques, and cross-functional feedback sessions to strengthen collaboration and design quality.

  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and development of designers to build a diverse and talented design team.

  • Guide team members to maintain attention to detail, ensuring that design elements are polished, accessible, and support usability, resulting in reduced user friction and lower support ticket volumes.

  • Ensure that the team produces designs backed by user research and data, balancing user needs with business requirements, with a goal of improving user engagement by a targeted percentage.



Team Leadership and Development




  • Lead the design team to foster both professional growth and cohesive, high-impact design output, resulting in a measurable improvement in team performance and morale (e.g., employee engagement scores).

  • Encourage open, constructive design critiques that enhance the quality of the work and promote a growth mindset, demonstrated by an increase in the quality of deliverables and peer feedback scores.

  • Proactively resolve design-related challenges and ensure alignment within the design team and with other teams, leading to reduced design iteration cycles and faster time to market.



User-Centered Approach and Adaptability




  • Lead the team in applying user-centered thinking to drive intuitive product solutions that contribute to improved user experience metrics, such as task success rate and reduced time on task.

  • Guide the team in adapting to changing requirements, new insights, and evolving company goals with agility, while maintaining a focus on delivering value through design, leading to improved responsiveness to market and user needs.

  • Encourage team members to remain receptive to feedback from users, stakeholders, and peers, iterating and refining designs for continuous improvement, aiming for a targeted reduction in design-related revisions.



Effective Collaboration and Communication




  • Lead the team in communicating design concepts and decisions clearly, articulating the value and rationale behind them, resulting in improved stakeholder alignment and faster approval times.

  • Foster a collaborative design process, engaging stakeholders to gather input and ensure that the user experience meets both user and business needs, with a measurable increase in stakeholder satisfaction.

  • Advocate for design excellence across the team and build strong partnerships across disciplines, making the case for user-centered, design-driven approaches that lead to measurable business outcomes, such as increased feature adoption and customer satisfaction.



Requirements




  • Master's degree in Design, HCI, UX, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 8+ years of experience in product design, with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership or management role.

  • Proven track record of designing and delivering successful B2B SaaS products, preferably in the Bachelor'sHR Tech space.

  • Expertise in design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Maze, UserTesting, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar.

  • Strong portfolio showcasing product design work, including user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and visual design.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Experience in building and scaling design teams, implementing and scaling design systems, and driving design-led innovation.
