Location: Abuja, Nigeria (with travel to implementing states as needed)

Duration: 6 Months (with possibility of extension)

Contract Type: Consultancy

Reports to: National Team Lead

Supervises: Project Team (Associates and Support Staff) and works closely with Technical Leads



Background



The DDR Harmonisation Project is a multi-stakeholder initiative aimed at aligning Nigeria’s disarmament, demobilisation, and reintegration (DDR) framework with international standards. It seeks to strengthen national policy, legal coherence, institutional coordination, and field-level reintegration systems, with a strong focus on inclusive recovery, trauma healing, access to justice, and human rights-centred approaches.



Purpose of the Role



The Project Coordinator will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of project planning, execution, and monitoring. The Coordinator will ensure synergy among technical teams, align implementation with the project’s strategic vision, and facilitate effective collaboration with national and local stakeholders. The role is essential to ensure the smooth delivery of project outputs, compliance with standards, and adaptive management.



Key Responsibilities



Project Coordination and Oversight




  • Coordinate the preparation and execution of work plans, activity schedules, and team deliverables in alignment with project goals.

  • Facilitate linkages between technical workstreams including DDR strategy, justice reform, trauma healing, research, communication, and community reintegration.

  • Monitor activity progress and maintain oversight of timelines, deliverables, and risk mitigation.



Team Coordination and Internal Communication




  • Serve as the coordination point among technical experts, associates, and administrative personnel.

  • Convene and document weekly coordination meetings, follow up on agreed actions, and ensure smooth internal communication.

  • Support conflict resolution and collaboration across functional areas.



Stakeholder Engagement




  • Support the National Team Lead in managing relationships with government agencies, security institutions, community actors, and civil society.

  • Liaise with key DDR actors, regional bodies, and international partners to support harmonised efforts.

  • Represent the project in relevant working groups and coordination meetings where needed.



Logistics, Planning, and Operations




  • Ensure logistics for meetings, field activities, and national consultations are well planned and executed with support from the admin and logistics assistant.

  • Track activities and outputs using internal tools; flag delays or challenges for rapid response.



Documentation and Quality Assurance




  • Review and contribute to technical reports, minutes, and knowledge products to ensure completeness and relevance.

  • Coordinate with the Reporting and Documentation Expert to ensure timely submission of donor and stakeholder reports.



Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Support




  • Facilitate the integration of MEL insights into ongoing planning.

  • Ensure the MEL team has access to implementation updates and documentation to inform learning outputs.

Qualifications and Experience



Education




  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in International Development, Peace and Conflict Studies, Public Policy, Political Science, or related field.



Experience




  • At least 7–10 years of relevant experience in project coordination, peacebuilding, governance, DDR, or development programmes.

  • Experience working in multi-sectoral teams and managing relationships with government and community actors.

  • Familiarity with DDR, stabilisation, or security governance programmes is a strong advantage.



Skills and Competencies




  • Strong coordination, facilitation, and planning skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication.

  • Proven ability to manage multi-actor collaboration and ensure delivery under pressure.

  • Strong organisational and time management skills.

  • Technically literate with tools such as MS Office, project trackers, and digital collaboration platforms.
