Job Overview
- The Utility Engineer is responsible for efficient operations of the utility section (Generators / Chillers / Compressors / Boilers.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily inspection of all the forklifts / pallets trucks in the facility, ensure the checklist is filled properly, and damages / issues reported need to be attended immediately.
- Carry out daily checks on all generators, and check the shift inspection reports from shift operators. Act on the faults / issues / leak reported.
- Perform daily checks on all the utility equipment's (Generators / Compressors / Chillers / Boilers) are well taken care of and kept in good working condition. Participate in repairs / servicing and preventive maintenance works.
- Travel to other locations when and where it's necessary (within Nigeria), to carry out inspection/maintenance and servicing of all the generator's used in our upcountry locations.
- Ensure the maintenance materials and supplies are stored, organised and labelled correctly to prevent damage, loss or deterioration of spares in utility store.
- Involve in troubleshooting on generator / utility equipment's with malfunction from electrical or mechanical aspect, support the team in charge on the major technical issues.
- Participate in the installation and commissioning of new equipment including of safety validation of equipment and to potential refurbishment of utility equipment.
- Complete all daily generator and utilities reports / documentation and submit to line manager.
- Ensure all oil and fuel spillages / waste collected and stored at designated location.
- Ensure compliance with FSSC 22000, ISO 22000:2028, ISO/TS 22002 and HACCP standards and procedures.
- Perform all other duties as may be assigned by the line manager.
Requirements
- Qualification: Interested candidates should possess a B.Sc, Eng, / HND in Mechanical/Chemical Engineering and other related courses.
- Experience: 5 years and above experience in a food or agro-processing plant (preferably cocoa, chocolate, or FMCG).
- Age: Not more than 45 years.
Abilities / Other Requirements:
- Certification in Food Safety (HACCP), ISO 22000, or FSSC 22000 is desirable.
- Knowledge of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices).
- Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot: Steam boilers (critical for cocoa roasting and pressing) and Chillers and cooling towers (for chocolate tempering and cooling systems).
- Strong troubleshooting and fault diagnosis skills.
- Understanding of thermodynamics and fluid systems.
- Continuous improvement mindset (Lean/Kaizen exposure is a plus).
- Data analysis for utility performance optimization.
- Strong documentation skills.
- Root cause analysis (RCA).
- Good communication with production and quality teams.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety, with the ability to report unsafe machinery or behavior promptly.
