Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Credit Risk Officer to evaluate, monitor, and manage the company’s credit exposure, reduce lending risk, and maintain a healthy loan portfolio while ensuring sound lending decisions that protect company assets.
The Credit Risk Officer will be responsible for assessing borrower credit worthiness, conducting financial analysis, monitoring portfolio risk, and ensuring compliance with credit policies.
The role involves preparing credit memos, performing stress testing, identifying high-risk accounts, and supporting loan restructuring and recovery strategies to safeguard the company’s assets.
Responsibilities
Review and analyze loan applications from individuals and businesses; assess creditworthiness using financial statements, credit reports, and business performance data.
Conduct risk scoring and recommend approval, decline, or loan restructuring.
Prepare credit memos and risk reports for management decision-making.
Analyze income, cash flow, debt ratios, and repayment capacity; evaluate business models and industry risks.
Perform stress testing and scenario analysis.
Monitor existing loan portfolio for early warning signs and track loan performance.
Identify high-risk accounts and recommend mitigation actions.
Support loan restructuring and recovery strategies.
Ensure lending decisions comply with company credit policy; help develop and update credit risk frameworks.
Maintain proper documentation and audit trail for all credit files.
Support regulatory and internal audit requirements.
Prepare weekly/monthly credit risk reports and portfolio health dashboards.
Present findings and recommendations to management.
Requirements
First Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Banking, or a related field.
Professional certifications in credit risk management are a plus.
3-4 years’ experience in lending, microfinance, fintech, investment firms, credit analysis, or risk management.
Strong financial statement analysis and credit risk modelling skills.
Advanced proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets.
Knowledge of the lending lifecycle and Nigerian credit environment & regulations.
Strong analytical, critical thinking, and attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ethical judgement, integrity, and ability to make data-driven decisions.
