Job Summary
- We are seeking a highly accountable and execution-driven Portfolio Manager to take full ownership of portfolio performance.
- This role goes beyond oversight and requires direct responsibility for governance, capital deployment, stakeholder engagement, and operational execution.
- The ideal candidate will have strong financial expertise, leadership capability, and experience operating in high-accountability environments.
- Success in this role will be measured by portfolio performance, governance standards, capital discipline, and the ability to build scalable institutional structures.
Key Responsibilities
Portfolio Governance & Execution:
- Drive performance and growth of assigned portfolio
- Activate and manage portfolio subsidiaries within set timelines
- Enforce governance standards, reporting structures, and compliance
- Identify and escalate capital risks promptly
- Prepare board-level reports, investment cases, and risk assessments
- Conduct industry engagement activities and submit structured reports.
Stakeholder Management:
- Build and manage relationships with government bodies and regulators
- Engage with DFIs and financing institutions
- Maintain strong industry and professional network presence
- Support recruitment of subsidiary leadership (CEO/CFO roles)
- Act as the primary institutional representative for the portfolio.
Capital Stewardship:
- Track capital deployment and exposure in real-time
- Ensure disciplined financial decision-making within authority limits
- Provide accurate financial and performance reporting
- Recommend capital reallocation or portfolio adjustments when needed.
Subsidiary Leadership Development:
- Support hiring and onboarding of leadership teams
- Establish governance frameworks and reporting systems
- Mentor talent and build institutional capacity
- Ensure subsidiaries meet required operational standards/
Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Accounting, or related fields
- Master’s degree or professional certification is an added advantage.
Experience:
- Minimum of 6 years progressive experience with direct P&L accountability (not just budget oversight)
- Proven experience in high-accountability environments (e.g., startups, turnarounds, infrastructure projects)
- Strong understanding of the Nigerian regulatory, institutional, and commercial landscape
- Experience working with government stakeholders, DFIs, and sector players.
