Reporting to the Head of Performance & Business Intelligence, this role serves as the technical and delivery backbone of enterprise performance reporting, combining advanced SQL engineering, expert Power BI development, rigorous data quality management, and strong stakeholder partnership to ensure performance insights are trusted, timely, and actionable.



The role translates enterprise performance requirements into robust data models, scalable reporting solutions, and governed datasets, while working closely with business leaders, data owners, and technology to resolve data quality issues and enable sustainable analytics.



The successful candidate will be based in one of our listed offices in Africa (Rwanda, Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, Senegal, Ghana and Nigeria).

Enterprise Reporting & Dashboard Delivery




  • Lead the end-to-end development of enterprise performance dashboards and scorecards used in leadership discussions, Review sessions and governance forums.

  • Build and maintain advanced Power BI solutions, including Optimized semantic models, Complex DAX measures, Role based security, Performance tuning for large datasets

  • Translate enterprise KPIs, performance frameworks, and reporting standards into consistent, scalable reporting assets.

  • Ensure dashboards clearly surface outcomes, trends, risks, and drivers of performance, not just metrics.

  • Support controlled adoption of self-service analytics by enabling well- governed datasets and certified reports.



Data Quality Management & Governance




  • Proactively identify, document, and escalate data quality issues affecting enterprise performance reporting.

  • Establish and enforce data validation checks, reconciliation routines, and exception reporting within dashboards and datasets.

  • Work with data owners and functional teams to clarify: Data definitions, Ownership and accountability, Remediation actions and timelines.

  • Contribute to enterprise data readiness initiatives (e.g., data migration, cleansing, and enabled use cases).



Program Performance and Strategic Insights




  • Delivering program performance Decks for board and leadership discussion

  • Delivering Strategic Insights papers on the Foundation's key investment areas and Impact analytics for leadership's strategic decision-making.



Data Engineering, Advanced SQL & Data Modeling




  • Develop and maintain complex SQL queries, views, and transformations across multiple enterprise data sources.

  • Design analytical data models that support integrated enterprise reporting across programs, functions, and initiatives.

  • Optimize SQL logic for performance, reusability, and accuracy, ensuring minimal manual intervention in reporting refreshes.

  • Partner with Technology and data platform teams to align SQL logic with enterprise data pipelines and architectures.

  • Automating data ingestion processes and automating data pre-processing, cleansing and verifying the integrity

  • Enhance data sets by creating automated match rules

  • Optimizing the data system performance for data pre-processing and Machine Learning algorithms running, including code optimization, Map/Reduce fine-tuning, etc.



BI Project Management & Capacity Development




  • Implement and adhere to enterprise reporting standards for Power BI, SQL, naming conventions, refresh cadence, and documentation.

  • Maintain clear technical documentation for: Data models, Measures and calculations, and Data sources and dependencies

  • Reduce manual reporting effort through automation, reuse of datasets, and standardized design patterns. Analyze, plan and develop requirements and standards in reference to scheduled projects

  • Establishes and implements project communication plans, providing status updates to affected staff and stakeholders.

  • Managing change requests from the users and managing the versioning/release schedule of the solution

  • Monitoring the solution usage

  • Coach analysts and business users on effective use and interpretation of dashboards.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of enterprise BI practices, tools, and ways of working.



 



Stakeholder Management & Business Partnership




  • Act as a trusted reporting partner to Program and Functional leaders, understanding their performance questions and translating them into technical solutions.

  • Facilitate sessions with stakeholders to: Refine requirements, validate dashboard outputs and Interpret results and implications

  • Balance stakeholders' need for enterprise standards, ensuring consistency without compromising relevance.

  • Support the Head of P&BI with analysis and materials for executive and Board discussions as required.



WHO YOU ARE




  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Engineering, or a related field.

  • 5 to 8 years’ experience, designing, building, and sustaining decision-grade enterprise reporting and performance dashboards that underpin executive and leadership decision-making.

  • Significant experience in enterprise reporting, business intelligence, and performance analytics, working with multiple data sources and systems.

  • Strong hands-on experience using advanced SQL to extract, transform, reconcile, and validate data in complex data environments.

  • Proven experience designing and maintaining advanced Power BI reports and dashboards, including data modeling, DAX, Power Query, performance optimization, and security controls.

  • Experience working with complex and incomplete datasets, applying structured approaches to data cleansing, standardization, and integration.

  • Demonstrated experience in data quality management, including validation, reconciliation, issue identification, and remediation with data owners.

  • Experience translating business reporting needs into clear technical requirements and scalable reporting solutions.

  • Strong stakeholder management and business partnering skills, with the ability to build trust, clarify requirements, and challenge constructively.

  • Experience supporting the adoption and effective use of BI tools and dashboards across teams.

  • Familiarity with preparing insights in formats suitable for different audiences, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, email, and SharePoint.

  • Experience operating in a matrixed and geographically distributed environment, managing competing priorities and delivery timelines.

  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts, data limitations, and insights clearly to non-technical audiences.

  • Strong listening and problem-framing skills, with the ability to ask the right questions and refine requests into actionable outputs.

  • Sound judgment in prioritizing requests, managing trade-offs, and escalating risks where appropriate.

  • High level of self-direction, accountability, and reliability, with minimal supervision required for ongoing reporting and dashboard delivery.

  • Resilience and flexibility to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced, and ambiguous environment.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and quality, particularly for high-visibility reporting.
