Responsibilities

Support the End Market Tax Manager in Tax Compliance Activities:




  • In relation to both direct and indirect taxes, and in collaboration with external consultants and EM Tax and Finance Teams, the tax analyst is expected to assist with the following tasks:

  • Preparation of Excise blackline reconciliations and returns.

  • Review of all monthly vendor invoices paid for preparation and filing of all monthly VAT and Withholding tax returns.

  • Preparation and filing of corporate tax returns for filing with the relevant tax authority.

  • Preparation and filing of Employers’ Annual Declaration (Form H1), Employers’ Remittance Card (Form G) and employee's annual statutory returns (Form A).

  • Consolidation of annual payroll and PAYE schedules for preparation and filing of Employers’ Annual Declaration (Form H1), Employers’ Remittance Card (Form G) and employee's annual statutory returns (Form A).

  • Processing of employees' individual tax clearance certificates (TCCs) and annual corporate TCCs.

  • Ensuring timely payment of all taxes to the appropriate tax authorities to avoid sanctions:

  • Review of all BAT Nigeria Group tax projects and contracts for compliance with all tax rules and regulations.

  • Perform annual VAT, WHT and TP remediation exercises to identify areas of noncompliance with all tax rules and regulations.

  • Ensure transfer pricing compliance requirements met for Nigerian markets.

  • Proactively obtain and validate BI data and progress the preparation and filing of transfer pricing returns for Nigerian market.

  • Manage all tax records of the Nigerian entities.



Support the End Market Tax Manager with Tax Reporting Processes:




  • Post relevant tax provisioning and tax payment journals approved by End Market Tax Manager and Cluster Head of Tax.

  • Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual tax reconciliations while ensuring strict adherence to relevant Sox controls

  • Engage with GBS, accounting and P&R teams to improve tax reporting and clear validation errors, where applicable.

  • Assist the End Market Tax Manager in responding to vendor queries.

  • Manage the preparation of analyses required for the delivery of tax control and Sox requirements for Half-year, P10 and Year-end.

  • Identify improvements to the Nigerian tax processes and activities (covering direct and indirect tax), where necessary.

  • Identify, escalate, and remediate inadequacies in reporting tools to mitigate tax leakages, where necessary.

  • Manage the preparation of statutory audit folders during interim and year-end audit exercises



Support the End Market Tax Manager with External Stakeholder Management:




  • Collating and providing substantive defence for ensuring prompt resolution of BAT Nigeria’s group tax investigations and tax audits by Nigerian tax authorities.

  • Manage the logistics during tax and TP audit exercises.

  • Assist the End Market Tax Manager with tax audit processes for ongoing audits. Where disputes arise, escalate and clearly communicate them to the End Market Tax Manager and other senior stakeholders; and assist with the preparation and documentation of risk assessments and defence positions during dispute resolution.

  • Provide data support to external consultants in their delivery of assigned tasks.

  • Prepare and post rental invoices issued to BAT’s tenants on e-flow.

  • Retrieve WHT credits from BAT’s tenants.

  • Raise Pos and provide WHT credit notes or bulk receipts to external consultants.



Support the End Market Tax Manager with Internal Stakeholder Management:




  • Engaging in cross-functional audits, projects, and activities to provide tax insights and support to other functions of the Group.

  • Ensure that the ‘tax committee folders’ are properly maintained following biannual Tax Committee meetings.

  • Responding to enquiries across BAT Nigeria group as it affects Nigerian taxation.

  • Provide support to meet employee expectations in the tax and other related areas.

  • Provide support to the End Market Tax Manager to ensure that all deliverables are achieved.



Support the End Market Tax Manager to Manage Risk in Nigeria in line with the Group’s Corporate Tax Strategy:




  • Implementing tax strategies across the business and ensuring optimal capital efficiency.

  • Management of tax technical register detailing changes in all aspects of the laws and regulation of taxes in Nigeria, as it affects the business.

  • Archiving all legislative changes impact correspondence in designated shared folders.



Requirements




  • Candidates should possess an Academic Degree

  • Professional membership of recognised Chartered Accountancy Body (Optional)

  • Prior knowledge of accounting, preferably in a reputable accounting firm.

  • Assertive and influencing skills.
