Job Description
We are looking for a skilled, reliable, and creative Cook to prepare delicious, nutritious, and well-presented meals. The ideal candidate will cook a variety of local (Nigerian) and continental dishes, follow recipes and menu plans, and maintain high standards of food safety and kitchen hygiene.
Key Responsibilities
Meal Preparation & Cooking
- Prepare and cook a variety of local dishes (e.g., jollof rice, tuwo, pounded yam, soup, stew, suya, etc.) and continental dishes (e.g., pasta, grilled chicken, fried rice, soups, stews)
- Chop, measure, and prepare ingredients according to recipes and menu requirements
- Plan menus with the employer/manager and ensure quality of meals
- Cook meals at the right time for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special events
- Ensure food is properly seasoned, cooked, and presented
Kitchen Operations & Hygiene
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen at all times
- Wash, sanitize, and store kitchen utensils, equipment, and work surfaces
- Follow food safety and hygiene standards for storage, preparation, and cooking
- Properly store food in refrigerators, freezers, and dry storage areas
Inventory & Stock Management
- Monitor and maintain an inventory of food supplies and equipment
- Order supplies from vendors and manage stock levels
- Minimize food wastage and control costs
Other Duties
- Assist with light kitchen cleanup after meals
- Prepare special meals for guests, events, or dietary needs as requested
- Report equipment issues or shortages to the supervisor
- Perform other kitchen-related duties as assigned
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Minimum SSCE
- Proven experience as a Cook in a home, hotel, restaurant, or catering setting
- Experience cooking Nigerian/local and continental dishes is essential
Skills & Abilities
- Strong practical cooking skills with knowledge of:
- Local Nigerian cuisine
- Continental/international dishes
- Cooking methods (boiling, frying, grilling, baking, steaming)
Ability to:
- Follow recipes and adjust flavors as needed
- Plan menus and manage meal schedules
- Work efficiently under pressure and within time limits
- Maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene
- Work well independently and as part of a team
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with employer/staff
