Job Purpose
- The Accounts & Tax Manager is responsible for ensuring accurate accounting records, timely management reporting, and full tax compliance across JHP/MRDS operations.
- The role ensures all financial transactions are properly captured, reviewed, and reported in line with accounting standards and regulatory requirements while maintaining strong internal controls and supporting management decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Responsibilities:
- Ensure all JHP/MRDS operational transactions are properly documented, raised, and accurately captured in the accounting system.
- Conduct regular reviews of all accounts to confirm accuracy, completeness, and consistency with supporting schedules and reconciliations.
- Prepare and manage monthly management accounts, financial schedules, commentaries, Board reports, audited financial statements, and statutory reports.
- Coordinate the preparation, review, and revision of annual budgets and forecasts in line with operational performance.
- Review and approve financial transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance with internal policies and controls.
- Oversee timely processing and review of daily payments and financial postings.
- Provide on-the-job training, coaching, and supervision of accounting staff to improve competence and efficiency.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by management.
Tax Responsibilities:
- Compute all applicable taxes including PAYE, WHT, VAT, CIT, CGT, DT, ITF, capital allowances, and related accruals in line with statutory requirements.
- Ensure timely filing and payment of all tax obligations to relevant authorities to avoid penalties and compliance breaches.
- Manage tax audits, queries, and engagements with tax authorities to resolve issues effectively.
- Review tax ledger accounts regularly to ensure accuracy and proper reconciliation.
- Maintain proper documentation of tax records, correspondences, and CAPEX invoices for audit and regulatory purposes.
- Ensure timely processing of tax clearance certificates and related documentation.
- Prepare and file transfer pricing documentation in compliance with applicable regulations.
- Stay updated on changes in tax laws and ensure continuous compliance across operations.
- Train and guide finance staff on tax processes, compliance, and reporting standards.
- Perform any other tax-related duties as may be assigned by management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related disciplines
- ICAN certification is mandatory.
- 3 - 5 years relevant experience in accounting and taxation within a structured corporate environment.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS, financial reporting standards, and Nigerian tax laws.
- Experience in management accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and tax compliance.
- Strong analytical, leadership, and reporting skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems.
