- We are seeking experienced professionals with expertise in Energy & Resources to join our Tax & Regulatory Services unit.
Responsibilities
Client leadership & relationship management:
- Serve as a trusted adviser to leading upstream, midstream, and downstream clients, providing strategic tax and commercial guidance across complex transactions and operational matters.
- Lead client engagements end-to-end, ensuring high-quality delivery, responsiveness, and alignment with client commercial objectives.
- Build and deepen C-suite and senior stakeholder relationships, positioning the firm as a preferred adviser on critical energy sector issues.
Technical advisory & transaction support:
- Lead the structuring and execution of complex oil and gas transactions, including asset acquisitions and divestments, farm-ins/farm-outs, PSC restructurings, and portfolio optimization.
- Provide expert advice on Nigerian fiscal regimes (including PPT, CIT, TET, VAT, royalties), ensuring technical accuracy, regulatory alignment, and audit defensibility.
- Assess tax and commercial risks, develop optimised structures, and deliver robust, defensible opinions supporting client decision-making.
Engagement delivery & quality assurance:
- Direct multiple concurrent engagements, ensuring rigorous project management, timely delivery, and adherence to professional standards.
- Review and stress-test analyses, reports, and presentations to ensure technical robustness, clarity, and consistency.
- Drive integration of tax, regulatory, and commercial considerations into holistic client solutions.
Team leadership, coaching & capability building:
- Lead, mentor, and develop high-performing teams, providing clear direction, technical guidance, and structured on-the-job coaching.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
- Build sector capability by upskilling team members on evolving oil and gas fiscal frameworks and market developments.
Business development & market leadership:
- Identify and originate new opportunities within the energy sector, developing proposals and converting leads into sustainable revenue streams.
- Contribute to thought leadership on industry trends, fiscal reforms, and regulatory developments in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
- Support strategic positioning of the practice in response to sector transformation, including energy transition dynamics.
Regulatory engagement & stakeholder management:
- Engage with key regulatory bodies and industry stakeholders to support client matters, resolve disputes, and provide policy insights where required.
- Monitor and interpret legislative and regulatory changes, proactively advising clients on implications and required actions.
Commercial oversight & risk management:
- Manage engagement economics, including budgeting, profitability, and resource allocation.
- Ensure compliance with internal risk, independence, and quality control policies across all engagements.
- Proactively identify and mitigate delivery, technical, and reputational risks.
Qualifications
- Possess a Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in any discipline with a minimum of second class upper/upper credit division; a Degree in law will be an advantage.
- Minimum of five credits in WASSCE Ordinary Level/NECO subjects or acceptable equivalent examination, including Mathematics and English Language in one sitting only.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in corporate tax.
- ICAN/ACCA qualified.
- Strong technical knowledge of Nigerian tax laws.
- Proven experience managing multiple projects and leading transaction workstreams.
- Effective verbal and written communication, presentation and client management skills.
- Advanced MS Office skills (particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
- Good understanding of the oil & gas industry.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Good working capital management, understanding timelines, development of templates for specific task and management of client relationships.
- Good working professional relationship with the regulatory authorities.
