Job Summary
- The Senior Accountant oversees financial operations, ensuring accurate reporting, compliance with statutory regulations, and adherence to ISO 9001:2015 standards for documentation and process control.
- This role manages budgeting, cost analysis, and financial audits while supporting project cost tracking and profitability analysis.
- The Senior Accountant contributes to financial integrity, risk management, and strategic decision-making across construction projects and corporate operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with IFRS and statutory requirements.
- Manage general ledger accounts, reconcile balances, and ensure timely month-end and year-end closing.
- Monitor project budgets and costs, track variances, and provide financial insights to project managers.
- Develop and maintain cost control systems, ensuring alignment with ISO documentation standards.
- Coordinate internal and external audits, prepare schedules, and ensure readiness for ISO and statutory audits.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely processing and accurate records.
- Prepare tax computations and filings, ensuring compliance with local tax laws and regulations.
- Generate financial reports and dashboards for management review, including cash flow, profitability, and cost-to-completion analysis.
- Support procurement and contract teams with financial evaluations and payment schedules.
- Ensure compliance with company financial policies, SOPs, and ISO standards for document control and record retention.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff, ensuring adherence to best practices.
- Participate in risk assessments, identifying financial risks and recommending mitigation strategies.
Qualifications and Experience
Eduation:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; ACA/ICAN certification required.
- Second degree (Master’s or MBA) is mandatory.
Experience:
- Minimum of 10-11 years experience in accounting, preferably in construction or project-based environments.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS, Nigerian tax laws, and ISO 9001:2015 documentation requirements.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, or ERP systems) and MS Excel.
