Function: Materials Quality, Receiving Inspection, and Traceability



Reports to: Materials/QA/QC Engineer / Procurement Quality Lead



Supervises: None



Role Purpose



Verify that purchased and delivered materials and equipment conform to purchase orders, specifications, approved drawings, certificates, and preservation requirements, with full traceability from manufacture through receipt, storage, issue, and installation.



Key Responsibilities




  • Review purchase orders, material requisitions, technical specifications, data sheets, approved vendor documents, inspection assignments, and release notes.

  • Perform or witness source and receiving inspections for pipes, fittings, flanges, plates, structural steel, valves, welding consumables, coatings, fasteners, and equipment.

  • Verify quantity, dimensions, grade, heat/batch numbers, markings, physical condition, packaging, and conformity with approved documents.

  • Review material test certificates and certificates of conformity for chemical, mechanical, heat-treatment, testing, and code compliance.

  • Witness positive material identification, dimensional checks, hardness, impact, destructive or non-destructive tests when specified.

  • Maintain material traceability and prevent commingling, substitution, damage, expiry, or use of unapproved material.

  • Identify non-conforming or damaged materials, control quarantine status, and coordinate technical disposition and reinspection.

  • Verify storage, preservation, segregation, environmental protection, shelf-life control, and issue practices at warehouses and laydown areas.

  • Prepare receiving reports, inspection releases, punch lists, NCR inputs, and complete supporting records for QA dossiers.



Qualifications and Experience



Minimum Requirements




  • HND or bachelor’s degree in Materials/Metallurgical, Mechanical, Welding, Production, or a related engineering discipline.

  • Typically 5 or more years of materials inspection, vendor inspection, receiving inspection, or procurement quality experience.

  • Ability to interpret material specifications, MTCs, ASTM/ASME grades, dimensional standards, and purchase-order requirements.

  • Experience with traceability systems, preservation, non-conforming-material control, and vendor documentation.

  • Competence with basic dimensional tools and material-identification methods.



Preferred Certifications and Standards Knowledge




  • ASNT/ISO 9712 Level II or PMI/materials inspection training is advantageous.

  • Welding inspector or API certification is desirable for piping and pressure-equipment materials.

  • Working knowledge of relevant ASTM materials standards, ASME specifications, API requirements, and client preservation standards.

Reporting and Interfaces



Internal interfaces: Procurement, warehouse, engineering, construction, QA/QC, logistics, preservation, and document control teams.



External interfaces: Vendors, freight/logistics providers, third-party inspectors, testing laboratories, and client materials representatives.
