Job Summary



  • As a Legal and Compliance Officer with our client, a global energy leader committed to delivering safe, sustainable energy for all, you'll provide key legal support, review critical agreements, ensure regulatory compliance, and manage legal risks in the oil and gas sector.


Responsibilities



  • Interpreting Agreements: Analyze major oil and gas agreements, including PSC, JOA, and OA, and provide clear and actionable insights.

  • Legal Counseling: Offer day-to-day corporate and business law counseling and internal legal support.

  • Compliance Review: Conduct legal reviews to address procedural and government compliance issues.

  • Document Review: Review and advise on tender documents, procurement contracts, NDAs, leases, official correspondence, and other legal documents.

  • Legal Research: Assist in researching, preparing legal opinions, and evaluating risk factors associated with business decisions and operations.

  • Issue Coordination: Help coordinate and anticipate potential legal issues, offering proactive solutions.

  • External Counsel Management: Support the management and coordination with external legal counsel.

  • Transaction Support: Participate in the negotiation and execution of corporate transactions.

  • Judicial Coordination: Liaise with judicial authorities, commissions, and follow up on relevant requests.

  • Training: Assist in delivering internal legal training sessions.

  • Documentation Management: Oversee the management of legal documentation.

  • Regulatory Analysis: Analyze Nigerian laws and regulations related to the company’s business, identifying relevant legal risks.

  • Additional Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned.


Requirements



  • Bachelor's Degree in Law or a related field; professional legal qualification preferred.

  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, preferably in a law firm, judicial authority, or the international oil and gas industry

  • Strong knowledge of civil, commercial, and company law, as well as international trade and oil and gas regulations.

  • Proficiency in English and MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PPT).

  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and adapt to a diverse work environment.
