Job Overview



  • The Legal Assistant will provide high-level legal support to a Court of Appeal Judge in Lagos.

  • The ideal candidate must have substantial legal experience, with a strong grasp of legal principles, court procedures, and legal research.

  • This role is integral to ensuring the efficient administration of justice, aiding in legal drafting, case research, and other clerical legal responsibilities. A Master’s Degree and experience as a legal assistant or in legal research are highly desirable.


Responsibilities



  • Conduct comprehensive legal research on case law, statutes, and regulations to support the Judge’s rulings

  • Draft legal documents, including opinions, rulings, and other court-related paperwork

  • Analyze legal arguments and assist in preparing memos, briefs, and legal opinions.

  • Attend court sessions, take notes, and provide summaries for the Judge as needed

  • Manage case files and ensure all documentation is organized, up-to-date, and accessible

  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion regarding sensitive legal matters

  • Liaise with other court personnel, legal practitioners, and administrative staff to ensure smooth court operations

  • Assist in proofreading and editing legal documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with legal standards

  • Keep abreast of recent legal developments and case laws relevant to the Judge’s caseload

  • Perform any other duty as assigned.


Required Qualifications



  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.), B.L

  • LLM is an added advantage

  • Strong understanding of Nigerian legal systems, particularly appellate court procedures

  • Proficient legal research and writing skills

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines

  • Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy in legal documentation

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
