Job Overview
- The Legal Assistant will provide high-level legal support to a Court of Appeal Judge in Lagos.
- The ideal candidate must have substantial legal experience, with a strong grasp of legal principles, court procedures, and legal research.
- This role is integral to ensuring the efficient administration of justice, aiding in legal drafting, case research, and other clerical legal responsibilities. A Master’s Degree and experience as a legal assistant or in legal research are highly desirable.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive legal research on case law, statutes, and regulations to support the Judge’s rulings
- Draft legal documents, including opinions, rulings, and other court-related paperwork
- Analyze legal arguments and assist in preparing memos, briefs, and legal opinions.
- Attend court sessions, take notes, and provide summaries for the Judge as needed
- Manage case files and ensure all documentation is organized, up-to-date, and accessible
- Maintain confidentiality and discretion regarding sensitive legal matters
- Liaise with other court personnel, legal practitioners, and administrative staff to ensure smooth court operations
- Assist in proofreading and editing legal documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with legal standards
- Keep abreast of recent legal developments and case laws relevant to the Judge’s caseload
- Perform any other duty as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.), B.L
- LLM is an added advantage
- Strong understanding of Nigerian legal systems, particularly appellate court procedures
- Proficient legal research and writing skills
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines
- Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy in legal documentation
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
