Job Overview and Duties

• Collects, processes, and handles blood and other biological specimens according to established procedures


• Experienced in culture, biochemical testing and sensitivity and preparation of culture media.


• Skilled in microbial staining and identification of microbes


• Ability to identify organisms via microscope


• Conducts quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid


• Examine and analyze body fluids, tissues and cells


• Conducts blood tests for transfusion purposes


• Develops and maintains cell/tissue cultures for testing purposes, as appropriate; isolates and identifies specimens, using advanced laboratory techniques.


• Performs quality control on test results, ensuring validity and accuracy.


• Performs calibration and troubleshooting on instruments to ensure adherence to established standards of accuracy.


• Skilled in evaluating test results for accuracy


• Keeps records and reports on results according to established procedures.


• Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.

Requirements

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science with at least two (3) years post NYSC experience as a lab Scientist.


• Must be registered with the Medical Laboratory Council of Nigeria (MLCN), and a holder of a current practicing license.


• Good judgment and decision making skills


• Exceptional Knowledge of Microsoft office Suite


• Understanding of electronic and computerized equipment in laboratories


• Customer orientation and ability to adapt/respond to different types of characters


• Excellent communication and presentation skills


• Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time effectively.
