Job Overview
- A Welder in a manufacturing company is responsible for fabricating and assembling metal components according to specifications using various welding techniques. The welder plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity and quality of the products by working with precision, adhering to safety standards, and delivering within deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
Welding & Fabrication:
- Perform welding operations using various methods such as MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), Stick, and other welding processes as required by the project.
- Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, technical drawings, and schematics to understand the job specifications.
- Set up, operate, and maintain welding equipment, ensuring it is in proper working order.
- Select and install appropriate welding materials such as electrodes, filler rods, and wire.
- Weld components in flat, vertical, and overhead positions, ensuring proper alignment and fitment.
Quality Control:
- Inspect welded joints, surfaces, and structures for defects and conformance to specifications using various testing methods such as visual inspection, ultrasonic testing, and x-ray testing.
- Perform grinding, cutting, or other post-weld finishing tasks as necessary to ensure a high-quality final product.
- Ensure welds are made in compliance with codes, standards, and customer specifications.
- Document work performed, including welding parameters, materials used, and inspection results.
Safety & Compliance:
- Follow all safety guidelines and procedures, wearing proper protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, and safety glasses.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, reducing the risk of accidents and ensuring efficient workflow.
- Adhere to company policies regarding the safe handling and storage of welding gases and materials.
- Participate in safety meetings, inspections, and drills.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with engineers, fabricators, and quality control teams to resolve any welding-related issues.
- Provide feedback to supervisors or management regarding potential improvements in welding processes or tools.
- Assist in training new or junior welders as necessary.
Maintenance:
- Perform routine maintenance on welding equipment and tools.
- Report any malfunctions or required repairs to the maintenance department promptly.
Qualifications & Skills
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Welding certification from a recognized institution is preferred (e.g., AWS, ASME).
Experience:
- 2+ years of welding experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in welding techniques (MIG, TIG, Stick welding, etc.).
- Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to operate various welding equipment and hand tools.
- Good physical stamina and dexterity to handle heavy materials and work in various positions.
- Knowledge of metal properties and how they interact under heat.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in a physically demanding environment.
- Prolonged standing, bending, and working in confined spaces.
- Willingness to work in varying temperatures, noise levels, and environmental conditions.
