Our client, a leading sustainable development consultancy firm in Nigeria, has expanded its services to include the Water and Wastewater Treatment sector. We are seeking a Business Development Manager with an engineering background to spearhead the growth of this new division.

Purpose of the Role

The ideal candidate will leverage their engineering expertise to identify business opportunities and secure projects/contracts in the water and wastewater treatment industry. By fostering technical partnerships and aligning with market demand, this role will drive the expansion of the business within the Nigerian market.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical Leadership: Provide strategic and technical direction for business development efforts within the water and wastewater treatment sector. Utilize engineering knowledge to guide decision-making and project planning.


• Financial Management: Develop, manage, and oversee project budgets, ensuring profitability, accountability, and adherence to technical standards.


• Stakeholder Leadership: Lead and manage relationships with key stakeholders, including technical partners, clients, suppliers, and regulatory bodies, to ensure successful project outcomes.

Top Accountabilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for expanding the water and wastewater treatment business.


• Establish governance processes to ensure the efficient operation and success of the water and wastewater treatment division.

Qualifications and Role Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Process, or related field) is mandatory.


• A Master’s degree in a related field will be an advantage.


• Minimum of 7 years of post-qualification experience, particularly in the water and wastewater treatment sector.


• Strong knowledge of water and wastewater treatment technologies and systems.


• Deep understanding of the Nigerian market, including trends in supply and demand for water and wastewater services.


• Proven ability to engage and influence key professionals and decision-makers within client organizations.


• Strong entrepreneurial mindset with excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.


• Attention to detail and fluency in both written and spoken English.


• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively across various levels of an organization.


• Willingness to travel both within Nigeria and internationally as required.
