Job Description



Responsibilities/Daily Tasks:



  • Develop, implement, and maintain the company's safety management system (SMS) in accordance with national and international aviation regulations.

  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and assess the effectiveness of existing safety measures.

  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

  • Ensure compliance with ISO standards and facilitate the preparation and execution of ISO audits related to safety management.

  • Provide safety training and awareness programs to employees and other stakeholders to promote a culture of safety.

  • Monitor and analyze safety data, trends, and performance indicators to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to enhance safety performance.

  • Liaise with regulatory authorities, industry organizations, and other stakeholders to stay updated on relevant safety regulations, standards, and best practices.

  • Collaborate with internal departments, including operations, maintenance, and training, to ensure that safety requirements are integrated into all aspects of the company's operations.

  • Participate in safety committees, meetings, and forums to communicate safety initiatives, share best practices, and address safety concerns.

  • Demonstrates excellent safety behaviour and attitude, follows regulatory practices and rules, recognizes and promotes hazard reporting and ensures effective safety reporting.

  • Models and promotes an organizational culture that fosters safety practices through effective leadership.

  • Represents the organization on government, international organizations and industry safety committees.

  • Assists in the continuous improvement of the hazard identification and safety risk assessment schemes and the organization’s SMS.

  • Acts as an information conduit to bring safety issues to the attention of management and to deliver safety information to the organization’s staff, contractors and stakeholders.


Qualifications and Experience:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Safety Management, or a related field.

  • Professional certification in aviation safety management (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, IS-BAO) is highly desirable.

  • Relevant certifications demonstrating ISO audit compliance.

  • Experience ensuring ISO audit compliance and familiarity with ISO standards related to safety management.

  • At least 5 years of cognate experience in aviation safety management, preferably in a similar role within the aviation industry.

  • Working knowledge of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations / ICAO / FAA and EASA standards.

  • NEBOSH Diploma or General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is a MUST.

  • Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices

  • Experience in writing reports and policies for health and safety.

  • Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics

  • Proficient in MS Office; Working knowledge of safety management information systems is a plus.

  • Outstanding organizational skills

  • Diligent with great attention to detail

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present and explain health and safety topics.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct thorough safety investigations and risk assessments.

  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

  • Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office and safety management software.

  • Broad operational knowledge and experience in the functions of the organization (e.g. training management, flight operations, air traffic management, and maintenance organization management);

  • Sound knowledge of safety management principles and practices.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Well-developed interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to relate to all levels, both inside and outside the organization

  • Organizational ability.

  • Ability to work unsupervised.

  • Good analytical skills.
