It is a non-profit organization with a mandate of making the lives of vulnerable people especially in the face of disaster or crises. GPON is presently operating in the North-eastern regional part of Nigeria where we have reached over 800,000 lives with relief materials, child protection services, GBV mitigation services, livelihood skill-building, health services, and Education support services.


Job Summary



  • The Water Technical Supervisor will work in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe (BAY) States in camps and host communities with frequent travels to deep field locations.

  • Manage water technology including leading designing, quantifying, specifying of boreholes, preparing contractual documents and managing them, managing geophysical studies, submersible and hand pump installation and repairs, submersible and hand pump repair and maintenance training, designing and constructing water distribution systems, pump testing, water quality testing, hand dug well construction.

  • The Water Technical Supervisor will also be responsible in coordinating and leading the GOALPrime water unit of the WASH department creating and drafting technical designs and submitting regular reports on the work being completed.

  • The technician's responsibilities include monitoring and servicing systems, diagnosing problems and troubleshooting equipment, running tests and completing reports, updating and improving existing systems, and repairing or replacing faulty equipment.


Job Descriptions:



  • Actively participate in the WASH water technical working group meeting

  • Lead rehabilitations and drilling of new boreholes – liaising with the community leaders, carrying out assessments to establish sites for new water points, reticulations, writing assessment reports about field trips, preparing plan for rehabilitation/drilling with supervision from the WASH Coordinator

  • Borehole and other water scheme repairs – carrying out repairs of boreholes and other water schemes (Water Reservoir, Fetching point and losses soak pit) with support from the WASH Officer

  • Installation of Water Flow metering device, Solar Panels, Inverter, Submersibles, bolts, bearings, replacement of pipes, correcting leakages in unions and back not etc.

  • Upgrading boreholes from hand pump to Hybrid (3 powering sources which include Solar energy, Mechanical energy and Human energy)

  • Timely submission of progress reports to the WASH Coordinator

  • Supervision of Water Technicians Assistants, Local Area Mechanics (LAM) and Boreholes Operators.

  • Assisting in setting up Surface Water Treatment plants (SWTp) – construction of the collection point, erecting bladder tanks basement and monitoring the chlorinators

  • Documentation and monitoring of water infrastructure/water point mapping – documentation of any WASH technical work done in the community

  • Monitor and inspect private contractor work at vital construction milestones per project schedule

  • Provide supervision, technical assistance and project management skills to local staff within BAY States.

  • Assisting in water quality testing and analysis, present results to relevant parties

  • Ensure chlorination as per standards.

  • Facilitating appropriate community involvement in the design and delivery of essential WASH services and facilities,

  • Coordinate with local authorities and local communities,

  • Work with WASH Officer in planning and implementation of proper WASH response in targeted areas,

  • Strengthen capacity of Local Area Mechanics to ensure sustainability of the project,

  • Maintain an accurate record and taking proper care of all field equipment and material stocks for the WASH facilities

  • Keeping proper records of field expenditures and reporting accordingly

  • Assisting in writing donor reports.

  • Translating project documents into local languages Hausa/Kanuri/fulfulde when required

  • Respond to WASH emergencies in other locations as they may occur.

KEY REQUIREMENTS


Essential



  • Training in water testing


·       Degree in Engineering with at least two years experience in related field or a Diploma with at least four years’ experience.



  • Sound strategic thinking and planning skills, including ability to think creatively and innovate and to set priorities and evaluate progress.

  • Experience of working within budget constraints.

  • Commitment to team working and understanding of how to contribute. Ability to build support from staff across teams and across members, and to build the capacity of others.

Salary and conditions: In accordance with GPON Terms of Employment. The income will be subject to statutory deductions as per applicable Nigeria laws. The employee is responsible for the tax returns.
