Job Description
Objective
- The MEAL Assistant will be a part of the MEAL team. He/she will be responsible for conducting measure assessments including evaluations, monitoring project activities, tracking progress and designing monitoring tools. She/he will also support in ensuring Accountability in supported communities including information sharing, participation, and ensuring efficient feedback and response mechanisms.
- Under the immediate supervision of the MEAL officer, the MEAL assistant will perform the following tasks:
Monitoring and Evaluation:
- Assist in the development of “SMART” objectives, logic models, and monitoring frameworks during project planning processes.
- Ensure MEAL activities align with overall program goals and contribute to achieving targets.
- Support the preparation of work plans by identifying MEAL-related tasks and ensuring their inclusion in project activities.
- Maintain and update existing indicator tracking tools; assist in developing additional tools or databases as necessary to monitor project interventions.
- Ensure that specific monitoring and reporting requirements are followed accurately and on time.
- Assist in data analysis to check for accuracy and flag any data quality or validation issues.
- Support in generating reports to track progress against key project indicators.
- Assist in creating graphics or visual aids to present data in a clear and meaningful way in reports.
- Help edit reports and deliverables to ensure they are high-quality and professionally presented before submission.
- Contribute to conducting project reviews, surveys, assessments, and other MEAL-related evaluations.
- Participate in monitoring partner self-assessment processes and assist with programmatic close-out reporting.
- Conduct field visits to support data validation, monitor data quality, and ensure completeness at project sites; assist with data collection and reporting.
- Capture and document lessons learned during field visits and support scaling up best practices.
- Provide support to project teams and partners in implementing MEAL systems, data collection, and reporting processes.
- Assist in the development and writing of proposals, concept notes, and reports related to MEAL activities.
- Foster relationships with local partners, donors, and other stakeholders as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the MEAL Officer or project manager.
Education and experience
- A minimum of HND, BSc or bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Information Management/technology, Public Health, International Development, Public Policy, or a related field.
- At least two years’ experience in – program monitoring and evaluation which includes database development and management, remote monitoring, assessments, and situation analysis in emergency settings.
- Proven success in designing, implementing, and operating M&E systems from project initiation to close out.
- Experience in strategic planning and performance management, including indicator selection, target setting, reporting, database management, and developing M&E and performance monitoring plans.
- Knowledge of the major evaluation methodologies (qualitative, quantitative, mixed method, and impact), data collection and analysis methodologies
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Experience and technical competencies: (include years of experience):
Essential:
- Computer skills, especially in Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel
- Experience in Electronic Data Collection.
- Previous track record monitoring nutrition projects across the BAY states, most especially UNICEF & WFP projects.
- Experience in planning and managing surveys, developing, and refining data collection tools, and with data quality assessments and oversight.
Desirable:
- Proficiency in the use of Kobo toolbox and research.
- Proficient using analysis tool (Excel, SPSS, or Power BI)
- Proven success in designing, implementing, and operating M&E systems from project initiation to close out.
