- The Tax Accountant is responsible for preparing tax filings, providing guidance on tax regulations, and assisting clients in minimizing tax liabilities.
- They work with financial statements and records to ensure accurate reporting and compliance with local, state, and federal tax laws.
Responsibilities
Tax Preparation:
- Prepare and file tax returns for individuals, businesses, and organizations.
- Ensure timely submission of all tax-related documents and payments.
- Review financial statements and records to gather necessary data for tax filings.
Tax Planning & Advisory:
- Provide strategic tax planning to optimize clients’ tax positions and minimize tax liabilities.
- Advise clients on the potential tax implications of business decisions, mergers, acquisitions, and investments.
- Stay updated on changes in tax laws, and proactively inform clients of relevant updates.
Compliance & Audit Assistance:
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Assist clients with tax audits by representing them in communications with tax authorities.
- Review company policies and procedures to ensure tax compliance and reduce audit risks.
Research & Analysis:
- Research complex tax issues and prepare reports or presentations for clients or internal teams.
- Analyze tax records and financial statements to identify tax-saving opportunities.
- Stay informed on new tax legislation, rulings, and tax-related court cases that could impact clients.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date tax records, including tax returns, audit reports, and financial data.
- Generate detailed reports outlining tax liabilities, tax payments, and tax credits.
- Collaborate with internal finance and accounting teams to ensure proper documentation of tax-related activities.
Client Relations:
- Communicate regularly with clients to discuss their tax situations, answer questions, and provide updates on tax filings.
- Build strong client relationships by providing personalized tax solutions based on individual or business needs.
- Help clients with tax-efficient estate planning, retirement planning, and investment strategies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- 3 years of experience in tax accounting or a related role.
- Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
