Position Overview:



  • As a Technical Operations Manager, you will play a pivotal role in driving the operational efficiency and effectiveness of Smarterise. With a strong background in Electrical Engineering, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing energy projects, ensuring they align with our mission and objectives. In addition, you will oversee the day-to-day operations, optimise processes, and ensure seamless coordination between different functions within the company. This role demands a strategic thinker with a hands-on approach, capable of navigating a fast-paced startup environment.


Key Responsibilities:


Operational Strategy:



  • Develop and implement operational strategies aligned with the company's overall business goals and growth objectives.

  • Continuously assess and refine operational processes to enhance efficiency, scalability, and sustainability.

  • Analyse existing workflows, identifying bottlenecks and areas for improvement.


Team Leadership and Development:



  • Build and lead a cross-functional team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and innovation.

  • Identify training and development needs, and implement programs to upskill team members.


Energy Project Management:



  • Oversee the planning, execution, and monitoring of energy projects, ensuring they are executed on time and within budget.

  • Leverage your background in electrical engineering to provide technical expertise and guidance for energy-related initiatives.

  • Collaborate closely with departments such as R&D, Data, Engineering, Sales, and Finance to ensure seamless coordination and alignment of operational efforts with broader business objectives.

  • Coordinate projects across our operating regions; notably across West Africa. Willingness and ability to travel is expected.


Compliance and Risk Management:



  • Monitor and ensure compliance with industry regulations, standards, and certifications.

  • Develop and implement risk management strategies to mitigate potential operational disruptions.


Data-driven Decision Making:



  • Leverage data analytics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor and evaluate operational performance.

  • Utilise insights to drive data-informed decision-making and continuous improvement.


Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. Master's degree is preferred.

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of work experience in Technical Operations management, preferably in a startup or cleantech environment.

  • Working knowledge of the energy and utilities industry

  • Proven track record of successfully leading and developing high-performing teams.

  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills, with a focus on data-driven decision-making.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate at all levels of the organization. Ability to communicate in French is a plus.
