Job Description




  • We are seeking an experienced and proactive Company Lawyer to join our team, specializing in loan and peer-to-peer (P2P) lending regulations.

  • This role is crucial in ensuring our operations comply with applicable laws, managing legal risks, and providing strategic legal advice on all lending and financial transactions.



Key Responsibilities




  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the company’s lending practices comply with federal and local regulations, including loan processing, interest rate caps, and borrower rights.

  • Drafting and Reviewing Contracts: Draft, review, and negotiate loan agreements, partnership contracts, terms and conditions, and other legal documents related to P2P lending.

  • Risk Management: Identify potential legal risks in loan agreements and propose solutions to mitigate them, ensuring the company’s interests are protected in all transactions.

  • Advisory Support: Advise management on legal implications of business decisions, including changes in lending regulations, privacy laws, and consumer protection.

  • Dispute Resolution: Handle loan-related disputes, coordinate with third-party collection agencies if necessary, and manage any litigation that arises.

  • Corporate Governance: Support compliance with corporate governance and assist in preparing documents for board meetings and shareholder communications.

  • Policy Development: Assist in developing and updating company policies in line with legal changes in lending, privacy, and data security.



Qualifications




  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB).

  • Licensing: Admission to the Nigeria Bar.

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in a legal role, ideally with a focus on financial services, lending, or fintech.



Skills:




  • Strong understanding of lending regulations, financial laws, and P2P lending compliance.

  • Excellent contract drafting and negotiation skills.

  • Ability to analyze complex legal issues and provide actionable advice.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
