Job Purpose
- The School Nurse is responsible for promoting health and safety within the school environment by providing healthcare to students and staff, managing health records, and educating the school community on health practices.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Communicate with parents, guardians, and healthcare providers to coordinate care for students with specific health needs.
- Work closely with school counselors, administrators, and teachers to support student physical, emotional, and mental well-being.
- Participate in meetings and provide input on policies related to student health and wellness.
- Implement and monitor infection control practices within the school, including handwashing, respiratory hygiene, and sanitation protocols
- Prepare and submit health-related reports to school directors and regulatory bodies as needed.
- Maintain confidential health records for all students, ensuring compliance with data privacy regulations
- Respond to medical emergencies within the school and provide immediate care as required.
- Maintain a stocked first aid kit and ensure that emergency medical equipment is accessible and in good working order
- Conduct routine health screenings (e.g., vision, hearing, and growth assessments) to identify potential health issues.
- Document and communicate findings to parents and recommend appropriate actions or follow-up care.
- Provide direct care to students, including first aid, medication administration, and health assessments
- Educate parents and staff on healthy practices, disease prevention, hygiene, and proper nutrition.
Qualifications and Experience required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or a related field
- Valid RN (Registered Nurse) license
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in pediatric or school nursing is preferred.
- Ability to work independently while being part of a collaborative school team, with a genuine affinity for working with children and understanding their needs.
