Main activities

• lead and lead a research team in the social sciences, according to the scientific axes discussed with the scientific council;


• Contribute to the training and guidance of young French researchers as well as the’university of’Ibadan (IFRA Junior Research Associates) and follow-up of their career path, (animation of seminars and research workshops) ;


• Follow current research programs ;


• To stimulate new research projects (with a search for funding), in particular in collaboration with’others of’UMIFRE from Africa or other regions;


• work to strengthen relations with universities and research organisations in Nigeria (in particular’Ibadan University) and with those of the countries in the area of competence (in particular Niger, Ghana and Benin) ;Promote research work in network with the other 3 UMIFRE of’ sub-Saharan Africa (Kenya, Ethiopia, South Africa) as well as’ with French research units involved in research on’Africa south of the Sahara ;


• Reception of researchers ;


• Coordinate the publication policy of’IFRA Nigeria ;


• Manage the budget composed of grants from the MEAE, the CNRS and’ other funding, in connection with the Secretary General of’IFRA and the service of cooperation and’action culturelle (SCAC) of the’embassy ;


• Search for additional financing, both public and private (foundations, companies) by proposing projects and responding to calls for’ offers ;


• Manage the staff of’IFRA ;


• communicate and disseminate the results of the work of’IFRA ;organize conferences/debates for a wider audience, including at the’Institut francaise d’Abuja and the’Alliance francaise d’Ibadan ;


• maintain a sustained and cooperative relationship with the’embassy of France in Abuja, the central services of the Ministry of’Europe and Foreign Affairs and the MESR and with the CNRS ;


• To include the activities of’IFRA within the framework of the French cooperation mechanism in Nigeria.

Diplomas or professional experience recommended to perform the duties

• Teacher-researcher or researcher in a French university or’another country of the’UE and holder of a doctorate from a French higher education institution or from’another country of the’UE.


• Demonstrated leadership experience in the field of research. An ability to conduct research is an asset.


• Knowledge or mastery of’a local language would be an asset. Knowledge of the region as well.
