Position Overview
- The Accounts Assistant/Officer is responsible for managing the financial records and transactions of the school in compliance with accounting principles and standards.
- The role involves monitoring accounts, reconciling financial discrepancies, and ensuring timely remittance of statutory obligations.
- This position supports the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and contributes to the efficient financial operations of the school.
Key Responsibilities
Transaction and Record Management:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all financial transactions in adherence to accounting principles and procedures.
- Record daily payments from parents and to vendors using accounting software.
- Record and reconcile daily petty cash vouchers, payment vouchers, cash advances, and retirement forms.
- Profile new parents from the enrollment database and raise bills for them upon issuance of admission letters.
Reconciliation and Reporting:
- Conduct weekly reconciliation of account receivables, payables, and bank ledgers.
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliation statements and reconcile salary journals and ledgers.
- Reconcile monthly accounts for receivables and payables.
Statutory Compliance:
- Prepare schedules for approval by the CFO.
- Remit statutory payments such as PAYE, WHT, pensions, and other government-mandated deductions.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing ofpayments to vendors through cheques or transfer instructions.
Audit and Budget Management:
- Assist in the preparation and facilitation of the school’s financial year external audit.
- Monitor and manage the school’s expenditures within budgetary limits.
Financial Planning and Control:
- Maintain a daily imprest account and conduct daily reconciliations.
- Provide support for budgetary planning and implementation.
Client Management and Support:
- Maintain clients' records and security documents, providing counsel on payment statuses when required.
- Act as a liaison between parents and the finance team to address billing-related inquiries.
Other Duties:
- Assist in developing financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance and efficiency.
- Participate in training and workshops to enhance financial management skills.
- Carry out other work-related activities and responsibilities as assigned by the CFO or school management.
Educational Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., ICAN, ACCA) are an added advantage.
- 2 - 4 years relevant work work experience.
Key Skills and Attributes:
- Strong analytical and reconciliation skills.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Knowledge of statutory financial obligations and remittances in Nigeria.
- Attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
