Reports To: Education Field Supervisor
Duration: One year subject to renewal
Job Purpose:
The Education Officer is responsible for implementing and supporting the education program activities within the organization. This includes ensuring the effective delivery of quality education services, particularly to vulnerable and marginalized children and communities, and coordinating program interventions. The Education Officer will work closely with community stakeholders, local authorities, and the program team to ensure that educational activities meet the needs of the community and align with the organization's overall objectives and donor requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Implementation and Support:
- Support the implementation of educational activities in line with project goals and objectives, ensuring quality and timely delivery.
- Coordinate and monitor the daily activities of the education program, ensuring that teaching methodologies, resources, and curricula are aligned with the program's design.
- Ensure that educational materials, including textbooks, learning aids, and equipment, are distributed efficiently and appropriately to the schools or learning centers.
Teacher Support and Capacity Building:
- Provide support to teachers, facilitators, and education staff through training sessions, professional development, and mentorship, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary skills to deliver quality education.
- Conduct classroom observations to assess teaching effectiveness, providing feedback and guidance for continuous improvement.
- Support teachers in implementing inclusive teaching practices, ensuring children with disabilities, girls, and other vulnerable groups are fully included in education activities.
Curriculum and Learning Support:
- Assist in the adaptation and implementation of curricula that meet the educational needs of children, particularly in emergency or crisis contexts.
- Ensure that the curriculum is inclusive, gender-sensitive, and appropriate for the socio-cultural context of the communities served.
- Work with education specialists to develop and improve learning materials and resources, ensuring they are accessible, relevant, and engaging for all learners.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting:
- Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of education program activities, collecting data on learner progress, attendance, and overall educational outcomes.
- Contribute to the preparation of progress reports, documenting activities, outcomes, challenges, and successes.
- Conduct regular assessments of education program activities, providing input for adjustments and improvements based on findings.
Community Engagement and Stakeholder Coordination:
- Engage with local communities, schools, and other stakeholders to raise awareness of the education program and gather feedback on its effectiveness.
- Work closely with local authorities, education officials, and other stakeholders to ensure the program is aligned with local education policies and priorities.
- Promote community involvement in the education program, ensuring that families and community members are actively engaged in supporting children's learning.
Child Protection and Safeguarding:
- Ensure that child protection and safeguarding standards are adhered to in all education activities, promoting safe and supportive learning environments for all children.
- Respond to any child protection concerns in line with organizational policies and procedures, ensuring appropriate referrals and follow-up.
- Advocate for gender equality and the rights of children, ensuring that education activities are accessible and inclusive for all children, including girls and children with disabilities.
Logistics and Resource Management:
- Support the procurement and distribution of educational materials and resources, ensuring efficient use of program resources.
- Assist in the logistics of setting up learning centers, classrooms, and other education-related infrastructure.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in education program implementation, preferably in humanitarian, emergency, or development settings.
- Experience working with marginalized or vulnerable populations, including children, refugees, or internally displaced persons (IDPs).
- Strong understanding of inclusive education, child protection, and gender equality principles.

- Experience in delivering training and providing capacity building to educators, facilitators, and education staff.

- Familiarity with tools and methods for evaluating educational outcomes, including learner assessments and progress tracking.
