Position Overview
- The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of the executive leadership team and is responsible for overseeing all financial operations, ensuring fiscal sustainability, regulatory compliance, and strategic financial planning.
- In a digital banking environment, the CFO plays a critical role in driving financial innovation, managing fintech-related risks, and supporting the organization’s growth objectives while maintaining sound financial governance.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Financial Leadership:
- Develop and execute the bank’s overall financial strategy in alignment with business objectives.
- Provide strategic recommendations to the CEO and board of directors based on financial analysis and projections.
- Drive long-term financial planning, including scenario modeling and forecasting for a digital-first banking environment.
- Evaluate investment opportunities and manage capital allocation to optimize shareholder value.
Financial Operations Management:
- Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Implement robust financial controls and processes to safeguard the bank’s assets.
- Manage liquidity, cash flow, and working capital to support operational needs and growth.
- Regulatory and Compliance Oversight:
- Ensure compliance with all financial regulatory requirements, including those set by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other relevant authorities.
- Serve as the primary liaison with regulators, auditors, and tax authorities on financial matters.
- Stay abreast of changes in banking regulations and ensure the bank adapts accordingly.
Risk Management and Fintech Innovation:
- Identify and mitigate financial risks, particularly those associated with digital banking operations, including cybersecurity and data protection.
- Collaborate with IT and product teams to assess the financial implications of new digital banking technologies and platforms.
- Develop strategies to optimize revenue streams from digital banking products and services.
Capital and Fundraising:
- Oversee capital planning and fundraising efforts, including equity and debt financing.
- Build and maintain relationships with investors, venture capitalists, and other financial stakeholders.
- Monitor and optimize the bank’s capital adequacy ratio in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead, mentor, and manage the finance team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Ensure proper succession planning and professional development for key finance roles.
- Promote collaboration across departments to align financial goals with broader business strategies.
Data-Driven Decision Making:
- Leverage financial analytics and business intelligence tools to drive informed decision-making.
- Analyze market trends and competitor performance to identify opportunities for growth.
- Provide regular reports and insights to the board of directors on the bank’s financial performance.

- Financial Accuracy: Timeliness and accuracy of financial reports and audits.
- Regulatory Compliance: Zero non-compliance issues in financial operations and reporting.
- Cost Efficiency: Achievement of cost-reduction targets while maintaining operational efficiency.
- Profitability: Growth in net profit margins and revenue streams.
- Capital Management: Maintenance of optimal capital adequacy and liquidity ratios.
- Risk Mitigation: Effectiveness of financial risk management strategies.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Positive feedback from investors, board members, and regulatory authorities.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. A Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) or Finance is preferred.
- Certifications: Professional certifications such as ACA, ACCA, CFA, or CPA are mandatory.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, with at least 5 years in a senior role within the financial services or fintech sector.
- Digital Banking Expertise: Strong understanding of digital banking products, services, and technologies.
- Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of banking regulations and compliance requirements in Nigeria.
- Financial Acumen: Proven track record in strategic financial planning, capital management, and financial analysis.
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire high-performing teams.
- Technology Proficiency: Familiarity with financial software, business intelligence tools, and digital payment systems.
