Job Overview:
The Head of Finance is responsible for providing strategic financial leadership and oversight of all financial operations within the insurance company. This senior executive position reports directly to ED, Finance & Corporate Services and plays a crucial role in shaping the company's financial strategy and ensuring its long-term financial health.
Job Responsibilities.
- Develop and execute the company's financial strategy in alignment with overall business objectives
- Provide strategic insights and recommendations to the executive team for decision-making
- Lead financial planning and analysis, including forecasting, budgeting, and performance monitoring
- Oversee capital management and investment strategies in coordination with actuarial teams
- Direct all financial operations, including accounting, treasury, tax, and financial reporting
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements specific to insurance industry financial reporting
- Manage relationships with external auditors, regulators, and financial institutions
- Oversee the preparation of statutory financial statements and regulatory filings
- Monitor and analyze key insurance metrics, including combined ratio, loss ratio, and expense ratio
- Oversee investment portfolio management in accordance with regulatory requirements
- Evaluate reinsurance programs and their financial impact
- Implement and maintain robust internal control systems
- Ensure compliance with insurance-specific regulations (e.g., Solvency II, risk-based capital requirements)
- Monitor and manage financial risks specific to the insurance industry
- Oversee the company's enterprise risk management framework from a financial perspective
- Lead and develop a team of finance professionals
- Foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement
- Provide mentorship and guidance to team members
- Ensure effective succession planning within the finance function
Requirements
- First Degree in Accounting, a Masters degree is an added advantage
- Must be a certified – ICAN, ACCA etc.
- Must be familiar with IFRS 17 Financial Reporting system.
- 15+ years of progressive finance experience, with at least 8 years in the insurance industry
- Minimum 10 years of management experience in a senior financial role
- Proven track record in strategic financial planning and execution
- Strong understanding of insurance industry regulations and financial requirements
- Must have excellent communication skills, people skills and a great team player
