Reports To: Executive Director, Finance & Corporate Services



Job Overview:



The Head of Finance is responsible for providing strategic financial leadership and oversight of all financial operations within the insurance company. This senior executive position reports directly to ED, Finance & Corporate Services and plays a crucial role in shaping the company's financial strategy and ensuring its long-term financial health.



Job Responsibilities.




  1. Develop and execute the company's financial strategy in alignment with overall business objectives

  2. Provide strategic insights and recommendations to the executive team for decision-making

  3. Lead financial planning and analysis, including forecasting, budgeting, and performance monitoring

  4. Oversee capital management and investment strategies in coordination with actuarial teams

  5. Direct all financial operations, including accounting, treasury, tax, and financial reporting

  6. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements specific to insurance industry financial reporting

  7. Manage relationships with external auditors, regulators, and financial institutions

  8. Oversee the preparation of statutory financial statements and regulatory filings

  9. Monitor and analyze key insurance metrics, including combined ratio, loss ratio, and expense ratio

  10. Oversee investment portfolio management in accordance with regulatory requirements

  11. Evaluate reinsurance programs and their financial impact

  12. Implement and maintain robust internal control systems

  13. Ensure compliance with insurance-specific regulations (e.g., Solvency II, risk-based capital requirements)

  14. Monitor and manage financial risks specific to the insurance industry

  15. Oversee the company's enterprise risk management framework from a financial perspective

  16. Lead and develop a team of finance professionals

  17. Foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement

  18. Provide mentorship and guidance to team members

  19. Ensure effective succession planning within the finance function



Requirements




  1. First Degree in Accounting, a Masters degree is an added advantage

  2. Must be a certified – ICAN, ACCA etc.

  3. Must be familiar with IFRS 17 Financial Reporting system.

  4. 15+ years of progressive finance experience, with at least 8 years in the insurance industry

  5. Minimum 10 years of management experience in a senior financial role

  6. Proven track record in strategic financial planning and execution

  7. Strong understanding of insurance industry regulations and financial requirements

  8. Must have excellent communication skills, people skills and a great team player
