General Description and Job Brief
The FSL Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting DHCBI’s efforts to enhance food security and livelihoods for vulnerable households in flood-affected areas, particularly in Malakyariri. The position involves executing program activities such as cash-for-work (CfA), food-for-assets (FFA), agricultural recovery, and livelihood restoration initiatives. This role emphasizes community engagement, distribution of agricultural inputs, and facilitating training sessions to ensure sustainable recovery and resilience-building for target communities.
The FSL Assistant will support project components, including rehabilitation of infrastructure, dry-season farming, livestock production, and financial inclusion activities, ensuring adherence to DHCBI and donor guidelines.
Responsibilities
Program Implementation
- Assist in the execution of CfA/FFA activities, including targeting and mobilizing vulnerable households for participation.
- Support the distribution of agricultural inputs (seeds, fertilizers, tools) and training on climate-smart agricultural practices.
- Facilitate the distribution of livestock, feed, and veterinary support to beneficiaries.
- Aid in the implementation of cash assistance programs, ensuring fair disbursement to eligible households.
Community Engagement
- Actively engage community leaders, women, youth, and persons with disabilities to ensure inclusive participation in FSL activities.
- Conduct community sensitization on program objectives, safety protocols, and expected outcomes.
- Support participatory planning and monitoring processes to align interventions with community needs.
Training and Capacity Building
- Organize and facilitate training sessions on crop diversification, irrigation techniques, and financial literacy.
- Assist in building the capacity of beneficiaries on livestock management and business skills.
- Provide orientation and safety training for CfA/FFA participants.
Monitoring and Reporting
- Collect and document data on beneficiary participation, training attendance, and program outcomes.
- Conduct field visits to monitor program activities and provide regular updates to the Project Manager.
- Support in preparing detailed reports on activity progress, challenges, and beneficiary feedback.
Infrastructure Rehabilitation
- Support community-led efforts to rehabilitate infrastructure such as feeder roads, water points, and sanitation systems.
- Facilitate activities to restore homestead gardens and other communal assets.
Compliance and Accountability
- Ensure all activities comply with donor and DHCBI policies, including Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) guidelines.
- Assist in maintaining a robust complaint and feedback mechanism to address beneficiary concerns promptly.
Requirements
Applicant must be Mafa LGA indigenes
Education:
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Community Development, Social Sciences, or a related field.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in food security, agriculture, or livelihood support roles, ideally within humanitarian settings.
- Familiarity with CfA/FFA programs, agricultural recovery, and livestock management is an advantage.
Skills:
- Strong communication and community engagement skills.
- Experience in field data collection and reporting.
- Knowledge of sustainable agricultural practices, including climate-smart techniques.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
Additional:
- Ability to work in remote field locations under challenging conditions.
- Fluency in Hausa and/or Kanuri is an advantage.
